Buffalo, NY has spawned some death metal classics, including a gore-obsessed band you’ve probably heard of, so it’s no surprise that it’s the city to birth Morgue Terror. Formed just a handful of years ago, they’ve been hard at work since then, releasing two EPs and a four-way split. One of the songs on said split is called “Cryptid Skin” and it’s been given the music video treatment today.
Speaking about Morgue Terror’s latest offering, guitarist Dave Jurenovich explains that he wanted to combine a range of death metal styles for “Cryptid Skin.”
“‘Cryptid Skin’ is my favorite song of the two I wrote for this year’s newest releases; ‘Feasting On The Dead’ is the other song,” he explains. “‘Gore Harvest’ and ‘Terror In The Morgue’ were written musically by our bassist Kevin. ‘Cryptid Skin’ is a blend of our styles: a little old school, a little slammy and some rare hints of melody (in the verse and chorus). Very groovy song that doesn’t get obscenely fast and is a mosher at some of our live shows.
“I wanted a fun, goofy, ironic playthrough. A death metal guitarist shooting a playthrough in cemeteries: brutal. Something fun, off the cusp and chaotic with an old school grainy film style. It all blended together across a few locations in Buffalo. It showcases my new Solar I’ve been exclusively playing since December of 2024.”
