Providing sonic misery for more than two decades, Australian droney doom crushers, Whitehorse, are offering up a new track, “The Wait,” from their upcoming split, The Dissolution of Eternity, with likeminded noisenik, UBOA (aka Xandra Metcalfe). The seven-minute ear-scrape is a tale of two tunes, with the first part a grinding, guttural sludge hammer and the second part a skree-filled noisescape littered with sonic detritus. The track is one of two Whitehorse contributed to the split, while UBOA offers up five of her own noise experiments.
The Dissolution of Eternity is set for release on vinyl, CD, cassette and digitally via Tartarus Records and Sweatlung on August 29. Place your preorder here.
The band described the track like so:
“‘The Wait’ is a descent through time’s erosion, where memories fade, feelings numb, anger swells. Excitement turns to disappointment. Life withers. Patience overtaken by frustration. Scratching the surface leads to burrowing within, the deeper you dig the darker it gets, bearings are lost, hope is beyond reach. Alone in the void there is nothing to do but embrace The Wait.”
