Track Premiere: Putrescent – ‘Sepulchral Desecration’

Los Angeles death metal crew Putrescent introduced themselves to the world two years ago with the EP Inhuman Infestation and now they’re back to show what they can do on a full-length album. Clocking in at eight songs, Darkness Embraced is a slab of pure, no-frills death metal, some of which has been in the writing and production process for more than a decade, like new tune “Sepulchral Desecration.”

“‘Sepulchral Desecration’ was written years ago, around 2011,” explains guitarist/vocalist Dixie Martinez. “It was definitely one I enjoyed writing due to the various tempo changes throughout the song, in addition to it being one of the songs that really helped me scope what Putrescent could be! I had already written ‘Inhuman Infestation’ and ‘Obscure Putrescent Growls of Death’ but this one was so much more raw. It pushed me and inevitably pushed the rest of the guys as well once they were brought into the fold.”

Martinez adds that, though the song’s original conception occurred many years ago, it served as a sort of jumping-off point for what would eventually become Putrescent’s new album.

“This is the song I feel creatively created a foundation for every song to come right after. Lyrically, it touches on the same morbid aspects of life and death, technically although older than many of the rest of the songs, it demonstrates a complexity which aligns with the rest of the tracks and creates the same level of dark evil ambience you will find the rest of the song on our album!”

You can sink your teeth into Putrescent’s old-school stylings below. Darkness Embraced is out on June 6.
