OK, friends, settle in for nine minutes of avant black/death metal depravity courtesy of Aussie outfit Ploughshare, a band whose name evokes pastoral imagery, though their music definitely doesn’t! The apocalyptic sounding—both in title and approach—”Fall of All Creatures” is the lead track from Ploughshare’s upcoming third album, Second Wound, which we can’t help but feel should have been titled Third Wound, but that’s just how our brain works. “Fall of All Creatures” is a discordant, complex and vicious-sounding blaster that sets the tone for the multi-genre approach that follows on the subsequent four tracks. Black metal, death metal, doom and dark electronic elements are swirled together in a non-stop aural hurricane.
Second Wound will be available via Brilliant Emperor Records on November 8 on CD and vinyl. Order the vinyl here or here, and the CD here or here. It will also be available on multiple digital platforms.
Here’s what the band had to say about its new track:
“The songs that comprise Second Wound were written between 2019 and 2022, with all of us working both together and individually. ‘Fall of All Creatures’ and the album as a whole take inspiration from the anchoress Julian of Norwich’s Revelations of Divine Love, as an expression of extreme asceticism, bodily privation and religious fervour.”
