Track Premiere: Heads for the Dead Channel Cronenberg and Necrophagia on “To The Very Last”

The slashers have returned! Horror death metal unit Heads for the Dead—helmed by Jonny Pettersson (Wombbath) and Ralf Hauber (Revel in Flesh, ROTPIT)—have emerged from the fog with their fourth full-length, Never Ending Night of Terror, due October 10 via Pulverised Records. Today, Decibel offers the first blood-soaked taste of the carnage with the exclusive premiere of “To The Very Last.”

If the track feels like it should be soundtracking a third-act chainsaw rampage through a VHS haze, that’s by design. Pettersson and Hauber cite Italian horror staples, Cronenberg’s Videodrome, and the queasy intensity of Re-Animator and Repulsion as key inspirations—both visually and sonically. The result is a death metal experience that’s dripping in atmosphere and intent, with ghastly layers of synths and grimy riffs clashing beneath Hauber’s feral growl.

“This is easily our most extreme album,” says Hauber. “In every way—intensity, atmosphere, fear. It’s horror metal of death.”

“To The Very Last” captures that ethos perfectly: a mid-paced chugfest that oozes dread from the first note, its lumbering gait giving way to sharp hooks, eerie keyboard accents, and enough menace to raise Lucio Fulci from the grave.

With new drummer Evan Daniele (Sentient Horror, Dead and Dripping) and returning shredder Matt Moliti (Sentient Horror) on board, Never Ending Night of Terror is a full-bodied tribute to slasher cinema, ‘80s gore, and the rotting pulp of cult film scores. There’s even a Goblin-inspired closer (“Witchkrieg”) that nods to Suspiria in all the right, haunted places.

So dim the lights, crank the speakers, and surrender to the shadows. This is death metal, in all caps. This is Heads for the Dead.

Listen to “To The Very Last” below, and prepare to face the Never Ending Night of Terror on October 10.
