Track Premiere: For the Pyres – “Downfall”

You’re kind of a getting a two-fer here with this track premiere, “Downfall,” from Swedish HM-2 stompers, For the Pyre, as we’re also throwing in the accompanying video, whereby vocalist Oannes Hagby gets buried alive by some faceless black-cloaked fiend. The track is a skin-shredding, scab-ripping dose of gnarly, thrashy Swedish DM from the band’s full-length debut, At the Pyres of Sin. Hagby’s band mates—Jesper Karvola (rhythm guitars), Martin Latvala (drums/backing vocals), Toni Siira (lead guitars/backing vocals)—burn through the three-minute track like fire through an ancient stave church.

At the Pyres of Sin was produced by the band and Vesa Kenttäkumpu, who also did the mixing and mastering. It’s set for release on CD and digitally on May 9 via Gruesome Records. Place your preorder here.

Toni Siira had this to say about the band’s full-length debut:

“For the Pyres represents everything that fuels us as musicians. It’s the embodiment of the heart and soul we pour into the music we love — a passion that burns relentlessly, like an unquenchable fire. This album explores the darker sides of humanity and spirituality, delving into themes like historical turmoil, religion, death, war and plague.”
