Do you miss Myspace and the days of heavy bands doing zany things in the name of trying something new? If so, Death Meta might be just the band for you; the fledgling Philadelphia outfit recently conceptualized, wrote and recorded their debut album, Malware, decked out in bright colors and chugging breakdowns.
Case in point? New track “Desecrated,” one of the last to be shared from Malware. The sub-minute ripper combines the chugs with panic chords and bright electronics for something that sounds more 2004 than 2025.
“‘Desecrated’ was the first song that was written for the new album,” explains bandleader Corey Regensburg. “I had started the song before DEATH META was even formed as a detour from producing electronic music.
“My long-time bestie and drummer, Jeremy Garber, visited me last fall and we were reminiscing on our high school death/grind/whatever-core band, A Dire Symphony from Long Island. Some of our favorites at the time included locals like The Partisan Turbine, Fire For Effect and This Years Addiction. We always vibed with the heavy bands who didn’t fit in a particular genre or scene, but still had wild, unpredictable mosh parts and transitions.
“This song (and the whole LP) is a tribute to the MySpace era of music we grew up on, where you sometimes had no idea what a band even looked like until you saw them play live. Other collaborators include Kyle Stetz and Zach Trebino who produced the uncomfortable and warped visuals that accompany each tune.”
Check it out below. You can dig into more of Malware via Bandcamp, and grab the album on September 5.
