Achathras are a new band, but the band’s anonymous members are veterans of the scene. Though the mystery behind their identities is a key part of Achathras, it’s clear from listening to the music on their debut album that we are listening to dedicated, experienced musicians. That debut, A Darkness of the Ancient Past, is out next month but Decibel has an exclusive premiere of the latest single, “The Despiser Triumphant.”
The newly-released song is triumphant and melodic in its approach, combining sharp riffs and strong blast beats with high-flying leads and brighter chords. There’s a clear influence from the ’90s European black metal scene in Achathras’ music, recalling the likes of Dimmu Borgir, Emperor and their ilk.
Explaining the song, Achathras tell Decibel:
“The Despiser Triumphant is a call to arms for the enemies of gods in all their wretched forms, invoking black metal’s adversarial and irreligious spirit.”
Invoke that spirit with the video below and head to Cult Never Dies for more info about pre-orders.
