MY CHEMICAL ROMANCE played its first concert in seven years in December 2019 in Los Angeles.
MY CHEMICAL ROMANCE broke up in 2013, three years after the release of its fourth studio album, “Danger Days: The True Lives Of The Fabulous Killjoys”. Since then, vocalist Gerard Way released his debut solo album, 2014’s “Hesitant Alien”, and several standalone singles. He also saw his award-winning comic book “The Umbrella Academy” adapted into a Netflix series.
Way’s bandmates also pursued various solo projects. Guitarist Frank Iero released a pair of solo albums, and bassist Mikey Way formed a group called ELECTRIC CENTURY. Guitarist Ray Toro briefly toured with a project called REGGIE AND THE FULL EFFECT, and released a solo recording in tribute to a transgender teen who committed suicide.
Reunion rumors first arose in 2016, when the group posted a cryptic video on social media. It turned out to be for a 10th anniversary reissue of the band’s 2006 album “The Black Parade”. The band stated at the time, “We are not touring and there is no reunion planned.”

QUEENSRŸCHE Used 'Real Amps' And 'Vintage' Equipment During Recording Of Upcoming Album
QUEENSRŸCHE singer Todd La Torre spoke to FOX17 Rock & Review about the band’s upcoming studio album, which was recently recorded for a tentative late 2022 release. Helming the effort once again is Chris “Zeuss” Harris, who previously worked with the band on 2015’s “Condition Hüman” and 2019’s “The Verdict” LPs.
“Each song might have a little different attitude and we wanted to just use real amps and all the vintage, real stuff that was used throughout the history of QUEENSRŸCHE,” Todd said (as transcribed by BLABBERMOUTH.NET).
“We did all the drums at a place in Clearwater [Florida] — a huge home with the most amazing ceiling for a drum room,” La Torre continued. “So we did all the drums there. And then, really, at my place [in St. Petersburg, Florida], we’re able to track all the guitars, bass and vocals.
“Those days of renting thousand-dollar-a-day studios, we don’t really need that anymore. And our producer Zeuss, who did the last two QUEENSRŸCHE albums — he does all Rob Zombie’s stuff; he’s a very seasoned producer, [and] he does mixing and mastering, so he’s a one-stop shop — he’s down here from Massachusetts. So he’s handling all those duties. And things are going really well. We’re having a great time.”
Last November, La Torre told Canada’s The Metal Voice about the musical direction of the new QUEENSRŸCHE material: “It doesn’t sound like ‘The Verdict’. It’s its own new kind of thing. We really kind of just focused more on melodic hooks. I don’t think we went in thinking, like, ‘Oh, we need to sound old school or new or this.'”
He continued: “You know what we did on this record… Every other time, each guy would kind of submit their own song ideas and then we would kind of work on that. But what we did on this record was, other than Eddie [Jackson, bass] — Eddie has a couple of songs that are really cool that he wrote and then showed us kind of when they were pretty much done. And then Michael [Wilton, guitar] kind of wrote some interesting chords — still staying within the keys and everything. But we all got in a room with our here [in Florida], and we literally started from scratch. Like, ‘Michael, what do you got?’ [And he would] come up with a riff. And Casey [Grillo] would sit on the drums, or I would sit on the drums. We were all actually in a room and just tried it like the good old days. So this record was totally like that — the whole thing pretty much, minus one or two songs. And even that changed a little bit.”
In early 2021, Wilton told The Metal Voice about the new QUEENSRŸCHE material: “Our producer, Zeuss, if this is any indication, he says it sounds like QUEENSRŸCHE … I think we’re just going with our gut right now. You don’t wanna take too many drastic chances in this day and age. So I think it’s more of a continuation of ‘The Verdict’, maybe, in some sense. We’re riding that wave. It’s been good to us. [Laughs]”
In October, Wilton confirmed that returning guitarist Mike Stone would contribute guitar solos to the band’s next studio album.
Since late May 2021, Stone has been handling second-guitar duties in QUEENSRŸCHE, which announced in July that longtime guitarist Parker Lundgren was exiting the group to focus on “other business ventures.”
Stone originally joined QUEENSRŸCHE for the 2003 album “Tribe” and stayed with the band for six years before leaving the group.
For the past five years, Grillo has been filling in for QUEENSRŸCHE’s original drummer Scott Rockenfield, who stepped away from the band’s touring activities in early 2017 to spend time with his young son.
In early October, Rockenfield filed a lawsuit against the band’s fellow original members Wilton and Jackson, alleging, among other things, breach of contract, breach of fiduciary duty and wrongful discharge.
QUEENSRŸCHE recently pulled out of SCORPIONS’ rescheduled “Sin City Nights” Las Vegas residency in order to support JUDAS PRIEST on the “50 Heavy Metal Years” North American tour dates in March-April 2022. The tour kicked off on March 4 in Peoria, Illinois and will conclude on April 13 in Hamilton, Ontario, Canada.

PHIL CAMPBELL AND THE BASTARD SONS’ latest album, “We’re The Bastards”, came out in November 2020 via Nuclear Blast.
Formed in the aftermath of MOTÖRHEAD’s dissolution, following the death of Lemmy Kilmister in 2016, PHIL CAMPBELL AND THE BASTARD SONS were always going to draw a crowd at any discerning rock or metal festival. Led by one of the genre’s most respected guitarists, the band emerged onto the 2017 touring circuit powered by a huge amount of good will, a smattering of MOTÖRHEAD covers and a handful of new songs that crackled with passion and swagger. Landing themselves a prestigious support slot on GUNS N’ ROSES 2017 summer stadium run, the BASTARD SONS hit the ground running.
Fast forward to 2020 and, just like everyone else, PHIL CAMPBELL AND THE BASTARD SONS had to cancel a lot of carefully laid plans when the global pandemic descended on us all. But as if to confirm their absolute dedication to blowing people’s heads off with thunderous rock ‘n’ roll, the band refused to cancel plans to record a follow-up to their widely lauded debut. Recorded and engineered during lockdown by guitarist Todd Campbell, the second BASTARD SONS album is called “We’re The Bastards” and it was described in a press release as “bigger, better and even more raucously uplifting than its predecessor.”
In October 2019, Phil Campbell released his first-ever solo record, “Old Lions Still Roar”. The album, which had been in the works for more than five years, included guest appearances by Rob Halford (JUDAS PRIEST), Dee Snider (TWISTED SISTER) and Alice Cooper, among others.

HENRY ROLLINS Expresses Solidarity With People Of Ukraine
In a new interview with Joe Rock of Long Island, New York’s 102.3 WBAB radio station, punk rock icon Henry Rollins, who is a relentless world traveler, expressed his solidarity with the people of Ukraine over Russia’s invasion of the country. He said (as transcribed by BLABBERMOUTH.NET): “The thing is still, in a way, breaking news. What I have been thinking about is everybody at my [spoken-word] shows in Kyiv, no one’s life is what it was a month ago. And I think of all those people throughout the last several days, ’cause they’re either moving, they’re on their way somewhere or they’re panicked or they’re not having a great time today. And these are people — very friendly. I talked to a lot of them. They were waiting for me at the hotel; they were waiting for me at the venue; they were hanging out after the show. Me being in Ukraine, that was a rare deal, so people were — my audience of eight — they were in disbelief. Like, ‘How did you get here?’ I said, ‘I have a good agent and I say yes to shows.’ ‘How come you haven’t been here before?’ ‘I came the first time I was offered a show. Here I am.'”
He continued: “You have to fly through Belarus to get to Kyiv, at least how I was flying, and so that’s another… I saw nothing more than the airport but it was not lost upon me, the times I’d been at the Belarus airport, like, ‘This is Belarus. This is intense.’ Because as an American, I don’t know what travel would be like for me in that part of the world before [Russian president Vladimir] Putin’s move into Ukraine or now; I have no idea what the law is. I know there’s some countries I’ve wanted to go to where they just will not give you a visa. It’s not necessarily dangerous; they just… they’re not gonna give a normal citizen a visa.”
Two months ago, Rollins canceled the European leg of his “Good To See You” spoken-word tour due to coronavirus-related concerns. He was scheduled to kick off the trek, which promised to “faithfully recount the events of his life in the brief pre-COVID period since the last tour and when things got even stranger over the last several months,” in Berlin, Germany on January 9.
The North American leg of the “Good To See You” 2022 tour is scheduled to kick off on March 12 in Royal Oak, Michigan and conclude on June 4 in Montreal, Quebec.
Rollins has toured the world as a spoken-word artist, as frontman for both ROLLINS BAND and BLACK FLAG and as a solitary traveler with insatiable curiosity, favoring road-less-traveled locales in places such as Nepal, Sri Lanka, Siberia, North Korea, South Sudan and Iran.
As a spoken-word artist, Rollins regularly performs at colleges and theaters worldwide and has released a number of spoken-word recordings. His album “Get In The Van” won the Grammy for “Best Spoken Word Album” for 1995. As an actor, he has appeared in “The Chase”, “Johnny Mnemonic”, “Heat” and David Lynch’s film “Lost Highway”.
In describing Rollins, the tendency is to try to squeeze as many labels as possible into a single sentence. “Rollins is many things,” says The Washington Post, “diatribist, confessor, provocateur, humorist, even motivational speaker…his is an enthusiastic and engaging chatter.” Entertainment Weekly’s list includes “Punk Rock icon. Spoken word poet. Actor. Author. DJ. Is there anything this guy can’t do?” TV Guide has more concisely called him a “Renaissance Man” but if Henry Rollins could be reduced to a single word, that word would undoubtedly be “workaholic.” When he’s not traveling, Rollins prefers a to keep a relentless schedule full of work, with gigs as an actor, author, DJ, voice-over artist and TV show host to name a few of the roles that keep his schedule full.
Rollins is the music, the attitude, and the voice that takes no prisoners. In his books, he has led us on a hallucinatory journey through the decades–and his mind — with poems, essays, short stories, diary entries, and rants that exist at “the frayed edges where reality ends and imagination begins” (Publishers Weekly).
