Late CHILDREN OF BODOM Frontman ALEXI LAIHO's Personally Owned Gear Is Now Up For Sale By His Estate

Musamaailma, the Finnish retailer, importer and wholesaler of musical instruments, is currently selling gear personally owned and used by the late CHILDREN OF BODOM and BODOM AFTER MIDNIGHT co-founder, guitarist and frontman Alexi Laiho, who passed away in December 2020.

Musamaailma is selling these items as an assignment by the Alexi Laiho estate, through an offer-based auction that ends May 2, 2021.

The auction and more information on the items with descriptions and images can be found at Musamaailma’s site.

Laiho inspired millions of people around the world with his music and his guitar playing skills. He was undeniably one of the most influential metal guitarists of his generation and has left a lasting impact that will live on through his music. Thanks to Alexi, countless people young and old have started playing guitar. Alexi’s signature guitars and his signature tone are some of the most sought-after things by metal guitarists worldwide. This is a unique chance to acquire his gear to achieve exactly the same tone Alexi used live and in the studio.

Musamaailma cooperated with Alexi since he was an up-and-coming guitarist. CEO Kai Saarikko states: “We supported him through the years and became friends. After his untimely passing, Alexi’s estate contacted us, and due to our long history with Alexi, we are now handling the sale on their behalf.” The sale has already gained interest around the world, with offers coming in from South America, Asia and North America. The sale has also been reported by MTV3, one of the largest domestic TV channels in Finland, as well as Soundi, one of the largest Finnish popular music magazines.

Current auction prices:

1. #1 Touring Rig: 10 000 €
2. Spare Touring Amp: 3500 €
3. “Studio” Amp: 5000 €
4. JCM800 KK Amp: 4000 €
5. Blackstar S200 Amp: 1200 €

BODOM AFTER MIDNIGHT has just released an EP, “Paint The Sky With Blood”, via Napalm Records. The effort was recorded in Finland back in 2020 and was meant to be the beginning of an exciting new chapter. Sadly, that chapter ended far too soon with the passing of Laiho.

Alexi and drummer Jaska Raatikainen founded CHILDREN OF BODOM in 1993, and the band was one of the most internationally acclaimed metal acts in Finland up until their very last farewell concert in December of 2019.

Besides CHILDREN OF BODOM, Laiho had played in such acts as WARMEN, SINERGY, KYLÄHULLUT and THE LOCAL BAND. Awarded with a Metal Hammer Golden God and several other international prizes, the guitarist was also the main star, leading a group of one hundred guitar players at the Helsinki Festival in 2015 in “100 Guitars From Hel” — a massive concert piece he composed.

Alexi passed away in his home in Helsinki, Finland. The 41-year-old had suffered from long-term health issues leading up to his death.

THE L.I.F.E. PROJECT Feat. STONE SOUR's JOSH RAND: Debut Single 'The Nothingness' Out Now

STONE SOUR guitarist Josh Rand has joined forces with PARALANDRA singer Casandra Carson to form a new band called THE L.I.F.E. PROJECT. The new group’s debut single, “The Nothingness”, has just been released on all streaming services, to be followed by THE L.I.F.E. PROJECT’s first EP, due this summer.

The official music video for “The Nothingness” can be seen below.

Last May, Rand told the “Behind The Vinyl” podcast that he was working on a new project. “As of right now, I have 12 songs musically done,” he said at the time. “Right now I’m looking at vocalists — different vocalists.”

Regarding the musical direction of his new material, Josh said: “It definitely is different than what I think most people would expect. I decided if I was gonna do anything that I wanted it not to sound like STONE SOUR ’cause it’s going to, to some degree. So, a lot of it, half of these songs… I started playing — I shouldn’t say I started playing piano. I know how to edit a mini-piano, so I’m a great piano player now… But a lot of ’em are piano-based, and I’m running with it like that. And I’ve also started incorporating all these different instruments — all kinds of crazy percussion and stuff. ‘Cause I just wanted to have fun and be creative and not try to write the next ’30/30-150’ or have that pressure of trying to do that. So I’m just kind of running with it, and that’s where I’m at.”

STONE SOUR has been off the road and out of sight since completing the touring cycle for its 2017 LP “Hydrograd”. Singer Corey Taylor has been working with SLIPKNOT since then, recording and touring behind that group’s sixth effort, “We Are Not Your Kind”. He also released his debut solo album, CMFT”, last October. Rand has been promoting STONE SOUR’s new live album, “Hello, You Bastards: Live In Reno”, which came out in December 2019.

Last August, Corey said that he was open to doing more recording and touring with STONE SOUR at some point down the line. Asked if there is “a future” for STONE SOUR or if it’s “kind of up in the air,” Corey told SiriusXM’s “Trunk Nation Virtual Invasion”: “It’s kind of up in the air. I’m certainly not mad at STONE SOUR. [My solo album] is just something that has my attention; this is what I wanna do for a while.

“There’s been some contention here and there, in the past — nothing that I’m gonna get into too much detail about — but it was just time for me to step away and do [the solo thing] for a while,” he continued. “It was time for me to kind of do something different, and do it in a way that doesn’t have the connotations of either band, to be honest.

“I’m still friends with everybody in STONE SOUR. Everybody in STONE SOUR is doing their own thing, and if the opportunity arose, I would absolutely do something with STONE SOUR. But for right now, this is really where my energy’s at; this is where my focus is.

“I’ll never say never, because, obviously, the best way to make God laugh is to announce your plans out loud,” he added. “But this is what my focus is right now.”

Corey’s latest comments echo those he made in June, when he told SiriusXM’s “Trunk Nation With Eddie Trunk”: “Yeah, [STONE SOUR is] kind of [on] the backburner right now. We all kind of felt that we did exactly what we wanted to do on ‘Hydrograd’ [album] and we’re just giving it a minute. I talked to the guys in the band about the solo thing and what I wanted to do, and they were all totally onboard with it. Everybody else has kind of got things going on, so they’re all cool. Josh is actually working on a solo thing of his own, which is great. So, yeah, I think STONE SOUR is kind of on hiatus right now, which is fine. If someday we wanna get back together and do some stuff, it’ll be bigger than it was. But for right now, we’re all kind of focused on kind of doing our own thing. But you never say never in this business.”

BEARTOOTH Drops Another New Song, 'Hell Of It'

BEARTOOTH has released another new song “Hell Of It”. The track, which can be streamed below, is taken from the band’s fourth studio album, “Below”, which will arrive on June 25 via Red Bull Records.

BEARTOOTH frontman Caleb Shomo commented: “‘Below’ is by far my favorite album I’ve made to date. It covers the dark side of dealing with mental strain during the last year. I gave it all I had — musically and lyrically. Is it too dark? Possibly, but it was as honest as I could be about how I felt. I hope everyone is ready to strap in for a wild ride of headbanging and rocking.”

“Below” track listing:

01. Below
02. Devastation
03. The Past Is Dead
04. Fed Up
05. Dominate
06. No Return
07. Phantom Pain
08. Skin
09. Hell Of It
10. I Won’t Give It Up
11. The Answer
12. The Last Riff

Last July, Shomo told “Mosh Talks With Beez” about the writing and recording sessions for “Below”: “I worked on a lot of this album on the road — a whole lot of this record. We honestly could not have been luckier with the way our record cycle laid out.

“The ‘Disease’ tour in Europe was our last tour of the cycle, and that finished on March 6th, I believe. And then the next week, everything got shut down. So we already planned to kind of take most of this year off. We planned on not taking it all off, like we’re probably gonna have to.

“I’d already worked on a ton of the record, just writing out on the road; I brought a studio rig out there. And that was great.

“When it first started, the whole lockdown thing, I just kind of emotionally shut down for a month,” he continued. “But then I just kind of caught a second wind, and I’ve just been ripping through songs. It’s pretty cool.”

Asked if the BEARTOOTH songwriting “formula” is still present in the band’s new material, Caleb said: “I think that something about the BEARTOOTH sound is sort of that formula. BEARTOOTH has a song structure — it’s the classic pop structure of intro, verse, chorus, verse, chorus, bridge, chorus, out. But with this one, I’ve just been trying to amp up everything. ‘Cause with the last record, I really wanted to go for that super-raw, live-rock-and-roll-in-the-old-school-studio and old-school-console sound, and it was rad, and I loved doing it. And it was proving to myself that I can make a real record without computers — well, [without] heavily relying on computers. But I don’t know… I just kind of realized, like, you know what? That’s what I learned as a producer. I came up in the era of mixing in the box and recording in the box, which means using plug-ins and emulations and things like that. I’ve just been kind of using that to try and push it a little further. The formula is still there, but I don’t think it’s in a bad way. I think it’s the formula people want from a BEARTOOTH record.

“This one is just jacked,” he explained. “Everything is amped up to 11. I am so, so pumped. Obviously, this is what you wanna think when you’re making a record, but damn, this is the best one yet. Not even close. This is the heaviest record. This is my best work — the most proud I’ve been of these songs. It’s wild. It’s some heavy-duty shit.”

Speaking about the musical direction of the new BEARTOOTH songs, Shomo said: “The easiest way I’ve been trying to explain this record to people without giving too much away is if ‘Disease’ was AC/DC, this record is BLACK SABBATH. It’s a lot more influenced in dark stoner rock, heavy power groove. Obviously, there’s still a lot of fast [stuff] and some punk rock and all that, but I’ve really been exploring with the stoner metal side of guitars and guitar tones and doing different tunings and lots of fuzz and chaos and layering the fuck out of my guitar tracks.

“The whole point, for me, of this mix and the sonics of this record is as big and loud and fucking sonically devastating as I can possibly get it,” he said. “So on a breakdown, for example, where on ‘Disease’ it would just be left guitar, right guitar, bass down the middle, this is literally… That little clip I posted [on Instagram ] is I think eight guitars, three bass tracks. Just experimenting — just doing dumb stoner shit and just trying my fucking best. Yeah, that’s the goal — is just sonic devastation, for sure.”

BEARTOOTH’s latest release was the folk- and country music-inspired “The Blackbird Session” EP, which came out in September 2019.

The band’s third album, “Disease”, was released in September 2018 via Red Bull Records. The disc was recorded at BlackBird studio in Franklin, Tennessee with producer Nick Raskulinecz (DEFTONES, KORN, FOO FIGHTERS).

THE DEVIL WEARS PRADA Shares New Track 'Termination' From 'ZII' EP

THE DEVIL WEARS PRADA will release a new EP, “ZII”, on May 21 via Solid State Records. The track “Termination”, taken from the effort, can be streamed below.

“I learned during the COVID-19 pandemic to imagine how a virus can seriously compromise our lives,” says vocalist Mike Hranica. “‘Termination’ makes mention of that and the greed that so often comes when humans fend only for themselves or when lying to protect reputation. I didn’t want to remake any part of the lyrical imaginings of the first EP, and the transformation mentioned in ‘Termination’ is a part of the new territory I hoped to create for ‘ZII’.”

The original “Zombie” EP dropped all the way back in August 2010 and remains an intense fan favorite. While not a chronological release in the THE DEVIL WEARS PRADA catalog, “ZII” is the next chapter.

“There’s no question that the ‘Zombie’ EP is a fan favorite and a record that really set the pace for us as a heavier band,” THE DEVIL WEARS PRADA said, offering insight into this EP in relation to their catalog. “A goal we had for this EP was to pay tribute to ‘ZI’ while honing in on the characteristics that we enjoy about heavy music today and the directions we want to see it heading.”

The band continued: “We just had our first song go to radio with ‘Chemical’, and now in the same year, we will be releasing the heaviest music of our career with ‘ZII’. This isn’t just a new chapter for the ‘Zombie’ EP; this is a new chapter for us as a band, and an opportunity to lean into both sounds in ways that feel better than ever. We’ve found our footing with these six members. Now we’re stepping on the gas and not letting up.”

The band finished: “Before, there were five songs about how to fend off the apocalypse. Now, there are five songs of hopelessness against the hoard.”

“ZII” EP track listing:

01. Nightfall
02. Forlorn
03. Termination
04. Nora
05. Contagion

THE DEVIL WEARS PRADA has also planned a livestream event for Saturday, May 15, during which they will play the entire “ZII” EP in full. Fans can purchase tickets along with the pre-order of the EP.

Following its 2005 emergence, THE DEVIL WEARS PRADA served up 2009’s seminal “With Roots Above And Branches Below”. In its wake, the group achieved two back-to-back Top 10 entries on the Billboard Top 200 with the “Zombie” EP (2010) and “Dead Throne” (2011). The group kept up a prolific pace on “8:18” (2013), “Space” EP (2015) and “Transit Blues” (2016) and “The Act” (2019). This output of new music garnered widespread acclaim from Kerrang!, Revolver, Rock Sound, New Noise and Alternative Press who proclaimed it “an impressive step forward.” In addition to selling out countless headline shows, the musicians toured with everyone from SLIPKNOT to SLAYER. Not to mention, their total stream tally impressively nearing 200 million in 2020.

DINO CAZARES On New FEAR FACTORY Singer: 'I Kind Of Wanna Give An Unknown Guy A Shot'

Last Friday (April 16), FEAR FACTORY released its first new song in over five years, “Disruptor”. The track will appear on the band’s upcoming album, “Aggression Continuum”, due on June 18 via Nuclear Blast Records.

“Aggression Continuum” features guitarist, songwriter and co-founder Dino Cazares; drummer Mike Heller; and former vocalist, lyricist, and co-founder Burton C. Bell, who laid down his vocal tracks for the LP in 2017. It was produced and engineered by Damien Rainaud (DRAGONFORCE, ONCE HUMAN), with keyboards by Igor Khoroshev (ex-YES), and programming on two songs from longtime collaborator Rhys Fulber (FRONT LINE ASSEMBLY). “Aggression Continuum” was mixed by Andy Sneap (MEGADETH, KILLSWITCH ENGAGE, TRIVIUM), who also worked on FEAR FACTORY’s previous album, 2015’s “Genexus”.

In a new interview with “The Jasta Show”, the video podcast hosted by HATEBREED frontman Jamey Jasta, Cazares was asked if FEAR FACTORY will eventually make a new album with Bell’s replacement. He said (as transcribed by BLABBERMOUTH.NET): “Well, we’re gonna definitely do a new record with a new singer. We’re gonna continue with somebody else. Obviously, everybody knows that Burton quit the band, for whatever reasons.

“A lot of people are saying, ‘Oh, [the new FEAR FACTORY singer is] gonna be Howard Jones [formerly of KILLSWITCH ENGAGE].’ ‘Jamey Jasta is gonna do it.’ ‘Mark Hunter from CHIMAIRA…’ A bunch of different people that people are suggesting. As much as I love all those singers, I kind of wanna give an unknown guy a shot. Obviously, a lot of the guys that I mentioned, like you and Howard, you guys have a lot of stuff on your plate; you guys can make your own band and be successful. I kind of wanna get somebody — just a raw talent, and just bring that guy in, and he can just hit those beautiful, soaring melodic vocals every night. ‘Resurrection’, ‘Linchpin’ — all those big melodic songs, I want somebody who’s gonna be able to handle all of that flawlessly.”

Dino went on to say that he has “a few people” under consideration to be the new FEAR FACTORY singer, but that he hasn’t made his decision yet. He also elaborated on the challenge of finding a vocalist that can handle everything from a death metal-like growl to a harmonious sound.

“The thing is what I just said — the melodic soaring vocals,” he said. “There’s a lot of guys who can’t do heavy and those type of vocals like that. I mean, you hear a lot of screamo bands that scream, but then when they go heavy, they sound like BLINK-182 doing these vocals. Or some guys can do some sort of melodic vocals, but they can’t really do the beautiful soaring vocals. I mean, Burt couldn’t do ’em after a while; it’s difficult.

“I’ve talked to a lot of guys that are really good, and I would be, like, ‘Are you sure you can handle this every night?” he added. “We’re gonna be on tour for at least a year and a half. Are you gonna be able to do this?’ And some guys chicken out. I tell ’em straight up — remember, you’re gonna be away from your family. If you’ve got kids, you’ve gotta be a lifer; you’ve gotta be able to handle this stuff. You’ve gotta be able to be on the road for X amount of time.”

Last September, Bell issued a statement officially announcing his departure from FEAR FACTORY, saying that he “cannot align” himself with someone whom he does not trust or respect. He also ruled out a possible reconciliation with Cazares down the line, saying: “I’m done. I haven’t spoken to Dino in three years. I haven’t spoken to Raymond [Herrera, former drummer] and Christian [Olde Wolbers, former bassist] in longer than that, and I have no intention to. I’m just moving forward with my life.”

In October, Dino issued a statement in which he said that the door for Burton to come back to FEAR FACTORY wouldn’t “stay open forever.” The guitarist also revealed that Burton “lost his legal rights” to the FEAR FACTORY name “after a long court battle” with Herrera and Olde Wolbers. “I had the opportunity to do something right, and I felt that obtaining the name in full was the right thing to do for the both of us, so after nearly four years we can continue as FEAR FACTORY, to make more records and to tour,” he said. “That is why it is sad to hear that he decided to quit and, in my opinion, for whatever issues he has it seems like it could’ve been worked out.”

FEAR FACTORY has been out of the public eye since it completed a 2016 U.S. headlining tour on which it performed its classic second album, “Demanufacture”, in its entirety.

QUEENSRŸCHE's TODD LA TORRE On SCOTT ROCKENFIELD: 'I Have No Idea What He's Doing'

QUEENSRŸCHE singer Todd La Torre has once again denied that Scott Rockenfield is officially out of the band, saying the drummer asked for paternity leave four years ago and just never came back.

This past January, Rockenfield shot down suggestions that he quit QUEENSRŸCHE or retired from playing music. The drummer, who hasn’t performed with QUEENSRŸCHE since early 2017, took to his Facebook page to say that fans “have not been given the facts by any means” and implied that he would offer more details at a later date.

Scott’s comments marked the first time he has publicly addressed his status with QUEENSRŸCHE, which has used former KAMELOT drummer Casey Grillo for touring purposes since April 2017.

In a brand new interview with Sakis Fragos of Rock Hard Greece, Todd — who is promoting his debut solo album, “Rejoice In The Suffering” — was asked for his opinion of Scott’s recent remarks on social media. The vocalist replied (as transcribed by BLABBERMOUTH.NET): “[Scott] said, ‘I’m having a baby and I need paternity leave.’ We were really happy for him. ‘Congratulations. This is great. How much time do you need?’ [And he said] ‘I’m thinking six months.’ ‘Okay.’ Six months goes by, and then we learn that he is gonna take the rest of the year off. He never came back.

“I have no idea what he’s doing,” Todd insisted. “I don’t know what he’s up to. I hope that he’s doing well. I don’t have anything bad to say. I’m just telling you that actions speak louder than words.”

As for who will play drums on QUEENSRŸCHE’s upcoming follow-up to 2019’s “The Verdict” album, Todd said: “Casey deserves to play on this record, in my opinion. When it comes to writing new songs for this record, Casey is involved; he’s showing up, he’s participating. When it comes to recording this album, in my opinion, Casey should play drums on this record. He has earned it. He’s dedicated every moment of the last four years to QUEENSRŸCHE, and he’s the guy that shows up to play the live shows — period. So when somebody says, ‘Who’s the drummer?’ The guy that’s been showing up.”

The drum tracks on “The Verdict” were laid down by La Torre.

Last year, former QUEENSRŸCHE singer Geoff Tate expressed his doubt that Rockenfield will ever play drums again, telling Metal Rules that Scott “has a lot of medical problems and things like that now.” In 2019, Tate told 88.1FM WESU’s weekly syndicated radio show “Noize In The Attic” that he was “pretty sure” Scott “didn’t leave” QUEENSRŸCHE of his own accord. “I can tell you that there’s lawsuits involved; I know that,” he said. “He’s in kind of a really dark place, and I hope he gets some help, ’cause he’s really unraveled, you know? In my opinion. It’s too bad — he’s an incredibly talented drummer, and unfortunately, he never was happy with that. It wasn’t good enough for him.”

“Rejoice In The Suffering” came out in February via Rat Pak Records.

TED NUGENT Changes His Tune: 'The Pandemic Is Real, And The People That Are Sick Are Real'

Ted Nugent has walked back his comment that COVID-19 is “not a real pandemic” — days after testing positive for the novel coronavirus.

The 72-year-old pro-gun activist revealed his COVID-19 diagnosis in a video on Monday (April 19), saying that he had never felt so sick in his entire life. He also said many people had warned him against announcing his diagnosis.

The outspoken conservative rocker, a staunch supporter of former U.S. president Donald Trump, previously referred to the virus as a “leftist scam to destroy” America’s 45th president. “It’s not a real pandemic and that’s not a real vaccine, I’m sorry,” he argued in a video posted on Christmas.

Nugent acknowledged his apparent change of mind while being interviewed by Florida’s ABC7 earlier this week.

“There’s been worse conditions and health problems in the past in this country and around the world where nobody ever shut down mom-and-pop diners and shut down entire economic societies in the United States of America,” Ted said. “That’s what I believe, and I will continue to believe that that’s a hoax. But the pandemic is real, and the people that are sick are real.”

In the past, Nugent had repeated a narrative pushed by conservative media and disputed by health experts that suggests the official death count from the coronavirus is inflated. He had also mocked people who wear face masks, despite that both the CDC and World Health Organization have urged their universal use.

On Tuesday (April 20), Nugent took to Facebook Live to call out the mainstream media for allegedly distorting his previous comments about the virus.

“The lies I’ve seen that I’ve been doing these public appearances knowing I had the COVID-19. False,” Ted said. “Saying that I claimed COVID-19 was a hoax. False. I’ve always said… We have actually footage of me saying, if not hundreds, thousands of times… Of course there’s a Chinese virus. Hello? Who thinks that I claimed there’s no Chinese… There’s a Chinese virus. They call it COVID-19. I’m well aware of that.”

Nugent also addressed the fact that he previously blasted lockdowns on social media, publicly wondering why we “werent we shut down for COVID-1 through -18.” (The number refers to 2019 — the year in which the disease was discovered. There was no COVID 1-18.)

“You know, comfortably numb is actually uncomfortably dumb, because when I said, ‘What about COVID-1 through -18?’, they missed the whole point,” Ted insisted in Tuesday’s Facebook Live stream. “I know there was not a COVID-1 through -18, but there were past COVIDs prior to COVID-19 that nobody ever shut down any mom-and-pop businesses, never encouraged the economic destruction of the entrepreneur engine that drives America. So I was merely commenting that prior to COVID-19, nobody ever shut down anything — not for Ebola [virus], not for the Spanish Flu, not for AIDS, not for the Black Plague. But they’re doing it for COVID-19. So I was referencing those past epidemics-slash-pandemics as maybe a generalization of COVID-1 through -18.”

He added: “You stupid motherfuckers. The left is such a great source of comedy. Keep it up. Richard Pryor isn’t around anymore. We can’t rely on him for the ultimate comedy, so we rely on the comfortably numb nuts, uncomfortably dumb nuts.”

When Nugent first revealed his COVID-19 diagnosis, he described having a “stuffed up head,” body aches and that he “literally could hardly crawl out of bed the last few days.” “I thought I was dying,” he said. He also used racist language to refer to the virus, calling it the “Chinese shit,” and reiterated his previous stance that he wouldn’t be getting the vaccine because he claimed — falsely — that “nobody knows what’s in it.”
