Nielsen announced on Wednesday that it had completed its acquisition of entertainment metadata provider Gracenote. Gracenote’s data and technology is a key element of user interfaces and programming guides and includes everything from song data on compact discs to multichannel video programming distributors (MVPDs), smart televisions, streaming music services, connected devices, media players and in-car infotainment systems.
Nielsen says the acquisition will give them greater ability to provide audience and usage analytics as well as allowing Nielsen’s clients to better tailor their content delivery systems.
The acquisition was previously announced to be worth an estimated $560 million.
Gracenote will operate as a business unit within Nielsen’s Watch segment from its headquarters in Emeryville, CA, but will henceforth be known as “Gracenote, a Nielsen company.”
