Listen: Witch Vomit Surprise Release New EP, ‘Abhorrent Rapture’

Portland death dealers Witch Vomit released new EP Abhorrent Rapture on Friday, June 18 via 20 Buck Spin. Their first release since 2019’s Buried Deep in a Bottomless Grave, the EP comes as a surprise from the band.

Like the album before it, Abhorrent Rapture is a shining example of gory death metal with a sense of atmosphere. At four songs and eighteen minutes, Abhorrent Rapture gives listeners all of the good with none of the bad—the riffs are aggressive and boneheaded, the vocals sound like they were recorded in a cavern and the songs lurch forward like a zombie fresh out of the grave, with eerie melodies creeping in throughout.

The EP was recorded and mixed by Evan Mersky (Mortiferum, Triumvir Foul) and mastered by Dan Randall (Noothgrush, Ghoul, Sodom), which seals the deal for its dense, suffocating atmosphere.

Abhorrent Rapture is out now.
