KUSANAGI have released a new track by track guide for their new album!

Since forming in 2011, the Liverpool-based post-rock band have dazzled with their soundscapes drawining from a wide pallete, including electronic, metal, hip hop, synthwave and more. Now, the band are back are with their new album Paramnesia.

The album is about an abstract dream state that was created by human subconsciousness and could create a link between reality and dreams. The listener would travel between like a sonic dream portal. Alongisde the release of the new today, via Ripcord Records, we catch up with the band to give us a track by track breakdown of their new album.

Night Symmetry

The opening track entitled Night Symmetry is a sonic introduction to the entirety of the album, which gives the listener an insight into the musical landscape that the band’s music is trying to convey throughout the entire album. With section after section giving a glimpse of certain atmospheric moments combined with subtle technical compositions creating a musical journey that is ever changing and unpredictable.

Polymorph

As the name suggests the concept of this particular track Polymorph was to give the listener an impression of morphing shapes and colours and creating a listening experience that keeps the listener guessing at every point, trying to give the illusion of a virtual world where the musical textures create different dream like experiences throughout the track.

In Sleep We Heal

The track “In Sleep We Heal” gave the opportunity for the band to give the listener a chance to breathe and experience a slightly different shift in tone and atmosphere to explore a more modern electronic musical landscape with the band ever present continuously building on a core idea that gradually builds to an atmospheric expansion of sound then concludes with the beginning of track repeating creating a kind of a subconscious loop.

Equilibria

A few years before the writing of the album was completed the band embarked on creating a new sonic musical direction for themselves which gave them their first core idea in the shape of the track titled Equilibria, an exploration into new musical territories with instrumentation, effects and sounds creating a balance of sonic energy which the band was inspired to keep pursuing. Once they had completed the writing of the track, it gave them the musical palette and vision to build up on when working on the other pieces of music for the album.

Spacial Awareness

This particular track was inspired by two alternate ideas that came together over the course of the writing process. The middle section of the track one of the key ideas really embraces the atmosphere of space where the title Spacial Awareness really comes to light. The second musical idea was based around a recurring bass line that overall creates the foundation of the track that every other musical idea around it is based on.

Luminosity

KUSANAGI set out to create a powerful ambient musical idea which became Luminosity, this particular track would give them the opportunity to create tension that would build into progressive atmospheric structures given the impression of a sonic light source that would guide the listener through multiple powerful ambient dreamscapes.

Physics Of Colour

The concept of a musical kaleidoscope or prism was particularly an interesting idea of how the band could use mathematics and sound to create an ever changing mood, tone and colour using the concept of synesthesia as a physical sonic landscape where the title Physics Of Colour really would describe the different shifts in time sequence and musical structure.

Dream Projector

As the writing process of the album was coming towards its conclusion, the band knew they had to create a track that would solidify the main musical vision that the band was inspired to work towards which led them to Dream Projector, a track that at the beginning creates an ambience that gives warmth and depth to the listener before sending them on a powerful uplifting sonic journey which includes recurring melodic structures that gives the impression of familiarity to the listener and a sense of subconsciously knowing how the album would overall conclude.
