“First, you need to find the guitar players that you want to emulate,” says Thayer, speaking with MusicRadar. “That’s what drove me to play guitar in the first place–certain bands or musicians back in the ’70s when I was around 13. For me, those guys were Ace Frehley, Ritchie Blackmore, Tony Iommi, Mick Ralphs and Jimmy Page.”
