New Swedish occult rock quintet Skräcken aren’t exactly blazing new trails with their female fronted, ’70s-influenced hard rock, but on their debut full-length, Echoes From the Void, they separate themselves from the pack by setting a gloomy, haunting mood that’s uniquely their own. The warm recording sounds like it was made in an old-school analog recording studio, with the band—Filip Spetan Magnusson (bass), Daniel Nordin (drums), Sebastian Lindberg (guitars), Martin Nordin (guitars), Sofie-Lee Johansson (vocals)—gathered around a Ouija board, communing with dark spirits. The Sabbathy riffs coalesce with Johannsson’s mystical vocals in a doomy, tension-laden dance.
Echoes From the Void is set for release on vinyl, CD and digitally via Dying Victims Productions on June 20. Place your preorder here or here.
The band offered this cryptic statement regarding its debut full-length:
“Echoes From the Void is the lingering presence of the vicious Maran. She rides your dreams, making you see a glimpse of the dreadful night and an ever lastning nightmare that stretches beyond the sanity of a sleepless mind.”
