Greetings, Decibel readers!
Happy D-Day. Wanted to throw you all a quick movie recommendation on this important day. I’m sure a lot of you are familiar with Saving Private Ryan and it’s opening scene depicting the landings at Omaha beach in Normandy. But a I bet a lot of you haven’t seen the classic of the genre, The Longest Day, the 3-hour, 1962 epic that stars … well, basically everyone. The movie is essential viewing for several reasons, but it’s particularly impressive for how thoroughly it covers the day’s events from nearly every perspective: the Americans, the British (including the Scots, Sean Connery is in it, after all), the Free French and the French Resistance, and the Germans. Perhaps the only omission would be something unique about the Canadians at Juno beach, but to be fair, a movie about the Dieppe Raid would be a better fit for that.
So go watch that while you enjoy your free donut today.
And after you listen to the albums below, of course.

Golem of Gore – Ultimo Mondo Cane
Let’s get this popping off right away. This is some supremely brutal and ignorant stuff, and it’s so glorious. For those of you who recently went to MDF, this is the kind of music that’s made for Baltimore Soundstage. As Albert said to me as I went to go watch some of those bands, “Get your gurgle on!”

Sexmag – Sexorcyzm
What do these guys write about? It’s a giant mystery, there’s absolutely no way to tell! Anway, all joking aside, this is the time warp to 1986 underground metal every one needs from time to time. And these maniacs, with the help of Dying Victims Productions, are here to take you there!

Turian – Blood Quantum Blues
From our full album stream of Blood Quantum Blues:
Seattle metallic hardcore crushers Turian are back with a tighter sense of identity and an amped-up sound on their new album, Blood Quantum Blues. Everything is amped up on the new album, including a new focus on electronics and scathing, honest lyrics from vocalist Vern Metztli-Moon.
Both of those things can be heard loud and clear on songs like “Mache” and the title track, which marry brooding, emotional vocals with lively electronics that transition back to guitar-focused heaviness.

Vader – Humanihility
It’s Vader, you know what you’re in for here. It’s like grabbing a light beer from out of the fridge. It doesn’t surprise you, but that’s not the point. You just want some crispy riffs, refreshing rhythms, and the taste of blood in your mouth from those intense vocals. Since this is an EP, I guess it’s more analogous to one of those mini-cans.

♱Velvet Cross♱ – Blood Consumer
Saidan is one of my favorite bands of the last 10 years, and Vampirska is super-rad too, so any collaboration between the two can do no wrong in my ears. If you love raw black metal as much as I do but want something that leans a little more on the gothic side, or at least more obviously than Saidan, then get that black nail polish ready for this EP. It’s dark, it’s catchy, it totally fucking rules.
