Damnation Festival have announced the final seven bands for this year’s festival!

After announcing SPECTRAL WOUNDTHE WORLD IS A BEAUITFUL PLACE… and DEADGUY last month, now, the final seven bands have been announced for this year’s extreme metal festival in Manchester, which celebrates its 20 year anniversary.

Leading the charge in the new announcement is DEVIL SOLD HIS SOUL – who will perform a special one-off set at this year’s festival with music from their first EP, Darkness Prevails, and 2007’s A Fragile Hope – while RAGING SPEEDHORN will make a familiar return with a fan-picked set.

Elsewhere, Irish black metallers PRIMORDIAL make their return to the festival, while the festival is rounded off with Belgian psychedelic post-metallers PSYCHONAUT, UK black thrashers DEVASTATOR (who replace FRAIL BODY), US shoegaze outfit ZERUEL and UK post-rockers DIN OF CELESTIAL BIRDS.

Speaking about the final additions, festival organiser Gavin McInally shares, “we’re delighted to complete what is by far and away the strongest and deepest Damnation line-up we’ve ever had the pleasure of putting together. I heard Darkness Prevails, and its stunning closing track Like It’s Your Last back in 2005 and it changed the direction of music I listened to towards some of my favourite artists including CULT OF LUNA and AMENRA. While A Fragile Hope has stood the test of time as one of the best metal records ever produced by a UK band. DSHS played Damnation in 2008 and again in 2012 but it’s a mystery to me that we’ve never had them back since, so the 20th anniversary celebrating their music which is also now two decades old seems as fitting a time as ever. This set will be one for the history books.

I’ve often credited RAGING SPEEDHORN‘s debut record as the reason Damnation exists and the band has played a major part in the festival’s timeline. There was no chance we were hosting a 20th birthday bash without them involved. And to mark the occasion, they’ve decided to let fans pick the tracks they want to be bludgeoned by, from the debut record to recently released Nightwolf. Do me and yourself a massive favour though, and pick Heartbreaker as one of your tracks!

When we settled on the two days this year we wanted to pack the Sunday with as many fan favourites and festival friends as we could fit on three stages and PRIMORDIAL certainly fit that bill. Having had several memorable performances down the years at Damnation, we look forward to welcoming them to BEC Arena for the first time to mark our 20th anniversary.

PSYCHONAUT are a force of nature live with riffs for days, DIN OF CELESTIAL BIRDS are coming armed with live visuals to accompany their sublime post- rock and ZERUEL bring their stunning shoegaze to Damnation for the first time. Huge thanks to DEVASTATOR for stepping in for FRAIL BODY on a minute’s notice. Following in the footsteps of HIGHC OMMAND and ENFORCED over the past couple of years, we expect them to open the second arena with a thrash bash.”
