Where they from?
Žďár Nad Sázavou, Czechia. The Mets might have lost seven games in a row [and counting — ed] but the Jets won their first preseason game against Green Bay! To quote Michael Scott, “I am ready to be hurt again.”
Why the hype?
I wrote about this band all the way back in the halcyon days of last year when they only had a split EP out, so I was overjoyed to see these Czech badasses had put out a full-length in this the year of our lord 2025. Sick Destroyer features members of Needful Things, probably one of my favorite Czech grind bands ever, and put out a similar style of grind, namely full-throttle and razor-sharp. I am particularly impressed with the vocalist who sounds like he recorded all his singing through a shattered trash compactor. I was even inspired enough to play the album for my Dad and he said what he always says whenever I play him grindcore: “When are you getting a job?”
Latest release?
Sick Destroyer, Psychocontrol Records. They end the album with a cover of Assuck’s “Salt Mine.” I count at least seven different bands who have covered this specific song and can only assume that all bands should cover it. And not just grindcore ones either, I’d be really interested in hearing what Ke$ha does with those diminished fifths. Ah, we like to have fun around here, don’t we?
