BEAUTY SCHOOL have announced a new album!
Titled From Now On, the upcoming album from the Yorkshire alternative rock sextet is scheduled to be released in October this year, via Slam Dunk Records.
The album serves as the follow-up to 2022’s Happiness and intends to mark the band’s most personal and ambitious work to date.
The album features guest appearances from Dan ‘Soupy’ Campbell of THE WONDER YEARS and Rae Brazill. Speaking about the material, guitarist Dan Shaw shares, “in the two years since Happiness was released, I had personally experienced a significant amount of grief through the loss of two of my grandparents and seeing another slip further into the loss of self which is dementia. I wanted to include themes that tried to avoid dwelling within the negative of these types of events and instead wanted to remember them for their kindnesses by immortalising them through their deeds and fond memories as well as sharing my personal experience coping with funerals, fallouts and the feelings that follow. A Part of Everything is just that, a homage to a tough time, the memories that will stay with me and the light at the end of the tunnel.”
Alongside the album announcement, the band have released a brand new single, Lately. The new song is the latest single to be released from the upcoming album, following on from Day of Iva and When I’m Feeling Down.
Speaking about the new song, Shaw says, “the playful nature of the melodies contrasts heavily with the themes of drug use, workplace neglect and corporate life. I had recently started a job in which I was told I’d have incredible opportunities, but the reality was very different. There was this expectation that I would work harder than everyone else, putting in extra hours without any support. When I reached out for help, it was like I was being ignored, and instead, I was given PowerPoint slides… To manage this I spent most of my downtime smoking and when I wasn’t smoking I was drinking to get to sleep on an evening, this took me down a spiral I struggled to remove myself from. Lately is a comment on how much of a toll corporate life can have on a person and how poor support mechanisms in modern life lead to drug misuse and dependency.”
