SKID ROW's New Album Gets Release Date; First Single To Arrive Next Month

SKID ROW guitarist Dave “Snake” Sabo has confirmed to The Music Universe that fans will still have to wait several months for the arrival of his band’s new album. The group recorded the LP in Nashville, Tennessee with producer Nick Raskulinecz, who has previously worked with FOO FIGHTERS, STONE SOUR, HALESTORM, EVANESCENCE, RUSH and ALICE IN CHAINS, among many others.

Asked if SKID ROW has a release date for the new effort, Snake said (as transcribed by BLABBERMOUTH.NET): “It looks like, as it stands now, September 16th. But we’ll be coming out with new music, it looks like, around the second [or] third week of March.”

Sabo also talked about the prospect of releasing a bunch of singles as opposed to focusing on full-length albums, as was the case for much of SKID ROW’s three-and-a-half decade career.

“Well, I think that the way that we’re doing it now we haven’t done before,” he said. “I think we’re at a stage in our careers and our lives where we’re just really open to other viewpoints. Okay, so we’re working with a new label. They obviously know what works for them better than we know what works for them. And we also know what works for us. And this whole process has been about kind of getting rid of old ways of thinking and doing things and being wide open to what exists in the current market and what exists in the current state of music. And so we wanna embrace those ideas. And not everything is gonna work for the way we work, but we’re definitely much more open [to it] in every facet — from the creation of music to the releasing of the music.

“We love the ritual of the process of opening vinyl or the process of getting into a CD,” he continued. “Rachel [Bolan, SKID ROW bassist] and I were just talking about this last night. It’s still a big part of our love of music, that process of the ritual, like I said — of having that physical product in your hand and putting it on the turntable or the CD player. And I understand that 80 percent of music is streamed these days, and that makes sense, and I embrace that as well. I mean, that’s how I listen to a lot of music; that’s how I discover a lot of music, be it on Spotify or YouTube or Amazon. And it’s great. I’m not one of those guys that condemns those platforms at all. I think it’s overcrowded and it’s not as easy to discover music, maybe, as it used to be. I still harken back to the days of underground tape trading, which was great, and underground fanzines and things like that, and that was a great way to discover music. But it’s different now, and I welcome it. I don’t lament the past — I embrace the now — and I also still know what I love as a guy who just loves music. And they can all work — they’re not exclusive of one another; it can all work together.”

SKID ROW’s new effort will mark its first release with South African-born, British-based vocalist ZP Theart (DRAGONFORCE, TANK, I AM I), who joined the band in 2016 following the departure of Tony Harnell (TNT, STARBREAKER).

Unlike 2014’s “Rise Of The Damnation Army – United World Rebellion: Chapter Two” and 2013’s “United World Rebellion: Chapter One”, SKID ROW’s forthcoming release will be a full-length record.

SKID ROW’s new LP will be released via earMUSIC, the recorded music label of German entertainment group Edel AG which boasts a roster of global artists including DEEP PURPLE, Alice Cooper, BABYMETAL, THUNDER, STATUS QUO and many more.

SKID ROW previously collaborated with several outside songwriters on its new material, including Corey Taylor (SLIPKNOT, STONE SOUR) and Lzzy Hale and Joe Hottinger of HALESTORM, a group that covered the title track of “Slave To The Grind” on its “ReAniMate: The CoVeRs eP” in 2011. SKID ROW also worked with songwriter-for-hire Marti Frederiksen, who has previously collaborated with AEROSMITH, DEF LEPPARD, Jonny Lang and Sheryl Crow.

As previously reported, SKID ROW has replaced QUEENSRŸCHE as the support act on the rescheduled dates for SCORPIONS’ “Sin City Nights” Las Vegas residency. The run of shows, which was originally slated to take place in July 2020 and was later pushed back to May 2021, will now happen in March-April, 2022 at Zappos Theater at Planet Hollywood Resort & Casino.

Last August, SKID ROW celebrated the 30th anniversary of its classic second album, “Slave To The Grind”, by performing it in its entirety at The Amphitheater at Rolling Hills Casino And Resort in Corning, California.

PHILIP ANSELMO At Atlanta's 'Days Of The Dead' Horror Convention (Photos)

Former PANTERA singer Philip Anselmo is making an appearance at this weekend’s installment of Days Of The Dead, a fan-run and fan-oriented horror convention, at the Sheraton in Atlanta, Georgia. A number of photos taken at the event can be seen below.

Days Of The Dead had its inaugural show in 2011 at the Wyndham Indianapolis West and has since expanded into at least seven cities nationwide (Chicago, Indianapolis, Charlotte, Louisville, Las Vegas, Dallas and Atlanta).

A huge fan of all things horror, Anselmo in 2013 joined forces with internationally renowned, best-selling true crime author Corey Mitchell (“Hollywood Death Scenes”, “Dead And Buried”) to create Housecore Horror Film & Music Festival, an underground, three-day horror and heavy metal fan event that combined live concerts from some of the biggest bands in metal and hard rock with screenings of horror, true crime, and heavy metal films, music videos, and more — and special guest appearances from some of the world’s most revered underground directors of horror.

In a 2010 interview with ARTISTdirect.com, Anselmo talked about when he first became a horror aficionado. “[When I was growing up] we had a black and white TV, and there was the ‘Saturday Matinee’, which was a horror fest,” he said. “As a matter of fact, I was home alone and I saw Mario Bava’s ‘Black Sabbath’, but that’s a later memory. There was the afternoon show, and then the Saturday night show had a horror host, ‘The Guru.’ Honestly, the most impactful one was the ‘Sunday Morning Movie’ — films like ‘Fiend Without A Face’ and ‘How Awful About Allan’. Believe it or not, those were on TV! Shit like that flipped me out. I would sneak up and beg my mother every night, ‘Can I stay up and watch ‘Night Gallery’?’ [Laughs] I was sneaking out of bed, too, though.”

COREY TAYLOR Opens Up About His Relationship With His Three Kids

SLIPKNOT and STONE SOUR frontman Corey Taylor was a recent guest on “Mayim Bialik’s Breakdown”, a quirky, informative, and interactive podcast breaking down the myths and misunderstandings about mental health and emotional well-being. During the chat, Taylor opened up about his early drug and alcohol addiction and how he makes sense of his extrasensory observations with the paranormal; discussed his difficult childhood, his process of discovering music and writing as an outlet, and his journey toward sobriety; explained the depression he faced after suffering a severe spinal cord injury from a stage dive; talked about using therapy to find healthier ways to parent, and how he was able to quit smoking cigarettes; and shared his intense experiences with paranormal intelligent energy and how he makes sense of the phenomena.

Speaking about his relationship with his son, Corey said (as transcribed by BLABBERMOUTH.NET): “Griffin is 19. He’s gonna be 20 this year, and my heart just [bursts with emotion]. He’s in a band [VENDED] that’s doing really well right now. As much as I try to just let him free range and just be his own self… At one point when he was younger, he wanted to be a botanist and a video game tester. And I was, like, ‘Hey. Go. Run with the bulls. Make it happen.’ And then he just gravitated right to the [music] stuff.”

Taylor, who married Alicia Dove in October 2019, also touched upon the breakup of his eight-year marriage with Stephanie Luby, whom he wedded in November 2009 (the couple had a daughter named Ryan). Corey was previously married from 2004 to 2007 to a woman named Scarlett, with whom he shares Griffin. The rocker also has a daughter from an earlier relationship.

The singer said: “This is actually my third marriage. My last marriage [to Luby], which was not Griffin’s mother — it was actually my daughter’s mother — that lasted about eight years. I won’t go into specifics, but it wasn’t a good time.’

Regarding his other kids, Corey said: “My [youngest] daughter’s seven. So I have a high school daughter, who’s 29; I have Griffin, who’s 19; and I have Ryan, my daughter, who’s seven. So I have to be careful every 10 years. Apparently I’m very fertile. It’s very weird.”

Asked about his eldest daughter Angeline, Corey said: “It’s weird, because her mother and I split up when we were very young. And she went her way, I went my way, and it wasn’t until the first time I got sober that I really was able to be in her life. So I didn’t come into her life until she was about 11. And even though we have so much in common, and we look exactly the same, which I keep apologizing to her; I’m, like, ‘I’m so sorry.’ I was her father but I wasn’t her dad, and I have all the respect in the world for her stepfather. You try to develop the best relationship you can. And it’s been up and down over the years. Right now it’s down. But at the same time, you have that love, and that love is always gonna be there.”

Corey previously talked about his strained relationship with Angeline in a 2020 interview with Metal Hammer magazine. At the time, he said: “She and I aren’t really close. I don’t want to say we had a falling out, but we just kind of drifted apart a few years ago. I wasn’t there when she was born. She was born early on and I was already at work when that was going on. With Griff, it’s different, though. I was there from day one. As well as with Ryan.

“It’s difficult,” he added. “It’s a tough thing to deal with, but all you can focus on are the ones you have, the ones that are right there, and hope that the other one is doing okay. I definitely miss her.”

Corey released his debut solo album, “CMFT”, in October 2020 via Roadrunner Records.

A new SLIPKNOT album will arrive later this year.

MEGADETH's DIRK VERBEUREN Collaborates With DARKANE, NASUM Members On New BENT SEA Song

MEGADETH drummer Dirk Verbeuren has released a new song from his long-running BENT SEA project.

“Wraithlike Horror”, a collaboration with Lawrence Mackrory (DARKANE, F.K.Ü.) on vocals, Jesper Liveröd (NASUM) on bass and Todd Haug (POWERMAD, GRAVHAUG) on lead guitar, is the ninth in a series of songs Dirk has dubbed “Instagrind”.

In May 2020, Verbeuren released the first “Instagrind” song from BENT SEA, “Grind To A Halt”, a collaboration with MIDNIGHT mastermind Athenar on vocals. It was followed by “Sycophant Legions”, a collaboration with FEASTEM’s Petri Eskelinen on vocals and Jesper Liveröd on bass; “Nothing Blasts Forever”, a collaboration with DRUGS OF FAITH’s Richard Johnson on vocals; “Quietus”, a collaboration with Tomas Lindberg (AT THE GATES) on vocals and Liveröd on bass; “Anger Mgmt”, a collaboration with Keijo Niinimaa (ROTTEN SOUND) on vocals and Liveröd on bass; “The Instant Grind”, a collaboration with Leon Del Muerte (IMPALED, MURDER CONSTRUCT) on vocals and lead guitar; “Downed At A Gulp”, a collaboration with Dave Witte (MUNICIPAL WASTE) on drums, Mike Paparo (INTER ARMA) on vocals and Brett Bamberger (REVOCATION) on bass; and “Destroy The Autocrats”, a collaboration with Omid Torn (BATTLETORN) on vocals and Jesper Liveröd (NASUM) on bass.

In a 2016 interview with All About The Rock, Dirk stated about BENT SEA: “BENT SEA is a spur-of-the-moment type thing without any business plan. The idea from the get-go was basically ‘no pressure’ and I intend to keep it that way.”

Back in 2012, Dirk told PureGrainAudio about BENT SEA’s formation: “It just sort of happened. I used to play guitar, but in recent years my focus was exclusively on drums. My wife had been encouraging me to write my own music, so I decided to give it a shot. The result turned out to be BENT SEA.”

Regarding the project’s name, the 47-year-old Belgian-born-and-now-Los-Angeles-based musician said: “It’s taken from a song by British experimental duo ENDVRA which I accidentally came across in my tape-trading days. Their music has absolutely nothing to do with grindcore, but somehow BENT SEA popped up in my mind. I like that it’s atypical, and that it conjures apocalyptic images echoing the intensity of my music.”

Verbeuren had been playing with SOILWORK for more than a decade before joining MEGADETH in 2016 as the replacement for Chris Adler (LAMB OF GOD), who called Dirk “probably [one of the] top three drummers in the world.”

In interview with the KATT Rock 100.5 FM radio station, MEGADETH leader Dave Mustaine described Dirk as “one of the most pleasant, easy-to-get-along-with guys I’ve ever met in my life. I’ll walk up to him and he’ll smile and lean forward and pat me on the back. He goes [adopts thin accent], ‘How’s it going, buddy?’ I could say, ‘Oh, man…’… anything. ‘Oh, okay, buddy.’ [He] smiles and pats me, ’cause he’s just a happy guy. I’ve never, ever, ever seen him not smile.”
