DEE SNIDER To Guest On 'Celebrity Family Feud'

TWISTED SISTER singer Dee Snider and his family have just taped an appearance on ABC’s “Celebrity Family Feud” TV show.

On Sunday (March 28), Snider took to his Twitter to a share a photo from the taping, and he wrote: “Well, today was an interesting day….” He added in a separate tweet: “This was the first time Celebrity Family Feud had a heavy metal/rock FAMILY on the show! #represent”.

Airing on the ABC television network, “Celebrity Family Feud” is hosted by stand-up comedian, actor, author and Emmy Award winner Steve Harvey. It features celebrities, along with their immediate family members or their extended TV families, going head-to-head in a contest to name the most popular responses to survey-type questions posed to 100 people for a chance to win money for a charity of their choice.

According to Buzzer Blog, season seven of “Celebrity Family Feud” is currently being filmed under COVID-19 restrictions.

Snider previously starred in several reality TV shows, including “The Celebrity Apprentice”, “Gone Country” with John Rich, MTV’s “Rock The Cradle” with his son Jesse, and “Growing Up Twisted”, an A&E series featuring the entire Snider family and their Long Island lifestyle. He is also a frequent host on MTV Networks, and his own long-running nationally syndicated radio show, “House Of Hair”, is heard on more than 200 stations in North America.

LACUNA COIL's CRISTINA SCABBIA: 'This Damn Pandemic Changed Us For Real'

During an appearance on the The Pit’s “Last Words” podcast, vocalist Cristina Scabbia of Italian metallers LACUNA COIL was asked if the situation in her country has improved at all in the past year after Italy became an early epicenter of the pandemic in Europe. She said (as transcribed by BLABBERMOUTH.NET): “To be honest, no — not really. It feels that we are stuck at last year. The difference that I can feel is that people are not panicking as much as [at] the beginning of this pandemic, which, on one side, I’m, like, well, this gives me a sort of a normality. So even if I see people with masks around, at least they’re not looking at you like you’re gonna bring death to them in an instant. But on the other side, it makes me worried, because we are not out of this damn pandemic yet. So I just don’t want to give up on protecting myself and others, and I just want to be attentive.

“I know people who got this virus, and some of them were okay — some of them had no symptoms — but I know people who died, and I know people who actually got really, really bad, and weeks after [have] still problems in breathing. So it is existing — whether it hits you hard or less hard, it is there. And it’s very contagious. And we can’t do anything about it.”

Explaining that “it feels like time stopped,” Cristina went on to say that LACUNA COIL was “one of the very first bands” to cancel a tour at the start of the pandemic. “We felt it coming, because Italy was the second place where the pandemic arrived — or, well, at least when the COVID arrived, because there was no pandemic back then,” she said. “And we’re still here — we’re still on another lockdown. We’re on week two out of three. The numbers are going up and down. We had some periods in which we could go out, always with a mask. And the curve went down again, and then it goes up and then it goes down. But we don’t really see an end. And we’re really behind with vaccines too.”

Cristina added that while everyone is anxious to regain some semblance of normalcy, a return to business as usual will likely still look a lot different in the waning days of the pandemic.

“All of us want our life back,” she said. “Of course, restaurants have been opening and closing, but, for example, I haven’t been playing a gig for a year. I played three concerts with a charity project, and it was surreal because, basically, we played in front of a crowd that was sitting, that couldn’t move, that couldn’t [stand] up, not even for applauding or cheering. And it was like in front of a jury.

“We all want to go back to normality, but sometimes I wonder: will we ever go back to normality?” she continued. “‘Cause I can’t really picture, from one day to another, just, like, okay, from tomorrow, everything is open, everybody can go out, no mask anymore. It feels really weird. And what is worrying me the most [is] we are almost getting used to this kind of seclusive new life.

“I was a person that had to go out all the time. I was traveling all the time — obviously. I was on tour most of the year — very social. Maybe I’m not a party-animal girl anymore, going to clubs every night, but I liked people, I liked interactions. And now I feel that if I go out for, like, an hour, it feels that I need to go back home, ’cause I feel safer, and now my world revolves around my computer, my living room. And this is scary to me, because this damn pandemic changed us for real. And even when the virus will be gone, I think that we will need time to adjust to a new normality, if we will ever have one back.”

Last month, LACUNA COIL took part in an initiative dubbed “L’Ultimo Concerto?” (Last Concert) to highlight the increasingly uncertain future of music venues. Instead of delivering live performances as part of a scheduled free virtual stream on February 27, each of around 130 Italian artists was filmed taking the stage at a different venue and then standing there in silence as a way of commemorating the one-year mark since the first Italian venues closed.

Organized by KeepOn Live, Arci, Assomusica and Live DMA, the “L’Ultimo Concerto?” campaign was announced in January when the venues shared images on social media of their year of foundation and the year 2021 with a question mark, suggesting that their closures due to the coronavirus pandemic could be permanent.

Between March and June 2020, the Italian government imposed a national lockdown by restricting people’s movements to contain the pandemic. Thus, museums and cinemas closed and all cultural events were either canceled or rescheduled.

Around 300,000 people working in theaters, music venues, cinemas and cultural spaces in Italy have been rendered jobless since they shut their doors due to the coronavirus crisis.

In September, LACUNA COIL took part in “Black Anima: Live From The Apocalypse”, an exclusive streaming show featuring a full performance of the band’s latest album, “Black Anima”, for the very first time, including songs never performed live, plus special backstage/off-camera moments and more. The Italian heavy rockers played the concert from the Alcatraz Club in Milan. “Black Anima: Live From The Apocalypse” was hosted on A-Live.

Ex-QUEENSRŸCHE Singer GEOFF TATE Doesn't Rule Out Writing Autobiography

In a new interview with Sonic Perspectives, former QUEENSRŸCHE frontman Geoff Tate was asked if he has ever thought about writing an autobiography. He said (as transcribed by BLABBERMOUTH.NET): “I have a lot of stuff written already. I’m kind of a journal writer, keeping track of everything, ’cause, honestly, the older I get, I can’t remember all the stuff. I go back and read what I wrote to remember dates and places. ‘Cause I’ve played so many shows — thousands of shows — in different places around the world, and honestly, you just sort of forget, unless you keep track of it and write it down. You forget where you were, or you remember there was something that happened there and maybe you can remember the situation, but you don’t know where you were. So it really helps to write it down and keep track of it.

“I have a lot of things written down — probably eight or nine hundred pages of information,” he revealed. “It’s pretty much organized by date. I think maybe when I get old enough to retire from singing on the road, maybe I’ll do something at that point.”

In April 2014, Tate and QUEENSRŸCHE announced that a settlement had been reached after a nearly two-year legal battle where the singer sued over the rights to the QUEENSRŸCHE name after being fired in 2012.

Tate was replaced in QUEENSRŸCHE by former CRIMSON GLORY singer Todd La Torre.

Last month, Tate announced around a dozen U.S. dates in late summer and fall as part of a tour celebrating the 30th anniversary of QUEENSRŸCHE’s “Empire” and “Rage For Order” albums.

For more information, including ticket links and links for meet-and-greet passes for purchase to meet Geoff and his band after the live shows, visit www.geofftate.com.

Early last year, Tate was forced to postone a number of his tour dates due to the coronavirus pandemic that is spreading across the globe.

Tate spent the first two months of 2020 performing the QUEENSRŸCHE albums “Rage For Order” and “Empire” in their entirety on the “Empire 30th Anniversary Tour”, which kicked off in January 2020 in Norway. Prior to that, Geoff celebrated the 30th anniversary of QUEENSRŸCHE’s “Operation: Mindcrime” album on European and U.S. tours.

Tate’s post-QUEENSRŸCHE band OPERATION: MINDCRIME released three albums over three years as part of a trilogy: “The Key” (September 2015), “Resurrection” (September 2016) and “The New Reality” (December 2017).

In 2019, Geoff released the debut album from SWEET OBLIVION via Frontiers Music Srl. The project saw Tate teaming up with a stellar cast of Italian musicians led by Simone Mularoni, the mastermind of prog metal masters DGM. The second SWEET OBLIVION album, “Relentless”, will arrive on April 9 via Frontiers Music Srl. This time the production was handled by Italian metal maestro Aldo Lonobile (SECRET SPHERE, TIMO TOLKKI’S AVALON, ARCHON ANGEL).

ADRIAN SMITH + RICHIE KOTZEN: Behind-The-Scenes Video On Making Of Debut Album

SMITH/KOTZEN, the electrifying collaboration between guitarists and vocalists Adrian Smith and Richie Kotzen, released its self-titled debut album on March 26 via BMG.

A six-and-a-half-minute behind-the-scenes featurette on the making of the album can be seen below.

Recorded on the Turks & Caicos Islands in February 2020, produced by Richie and Adrian and mixed by Kevin “Caveman” Shirley, this nine-track opus is a consummate collaboration between these two highly respected musicians who co-wrote all the songs and also share lead vocals and trade off on guitar and bass duties throughout the record.

Exploding with powerful melodies and harmonies, the album embodies the spirited attitude of 1970s classic rock with a melting-pot of influences ranging from blues, hard rock, traditional R&B and more, blending the pair’s backgrounds and life experiences to result in a thoroughly contemporary sound.

Track listing:

01. Taking My Chances
02. Running
03. Scars
04. Some People
05. Glory Road
06. Solar Fire
07. You Don’t Know Me
08. I Wanna Stay
09. ‘Til Tomorrow

The record features special guest performances by Adrian’s IRON MAIDEN bandmate Nicko McBrain on drums for the track “Solar Fire”, and Richie’s longstanding friend and touring partner Tal Bergman on drums for “You Don’t Know Me”, “I Wanna Stay” and “‘Til Tomorrow”, with Richie picking up the sticks on the other five songs.

Smith comments: “Richie and I started working together a couple of years ago. We’d been jamming as we’d been friends for a few years before that. We both share a love for classic rock and bluesy rock, so we decided to get together and start writing some songs and it went from there. Pretty much everything on the album is handled between Richie and myself, including the production. We had developed a really strong idea of how we wanted it to sound, and I’m very pleased with how it turned out. There’s a lot of cool songs on there that we are really happy with.”

Kotzen adds: “We had a very fluid process in writing. Sometimes Adrian would send me a riff and I would immediately hear some kind of melody or a vocal idea. And sometimes it was the other way round, so it was a kind of circular motion. We’d get together whenever we could and throw some ideas around and it just evolved, which was great because there was no pressure and nothing other than just a natural course and I think the record really speaks for that.”

The album is available in these formats:

* Digipack CD
* 12″ black vinyl with embossed sleeve
* Digital (streaming and download)
* Limited-edition 12″ red-and-black-smoke-effect-colored vinyl

Smith is best known as one of IRON MAIDEN’s principal guitarists, having also enjoyed success as a solo artist. Kotzen is the frontman for THE WINERY DOGS as well as having been the guitarist for both MR. BIG and POISON during his long and acclaimed career, which has to date seen him release more than 20 solo albums. Both artists are also prolific songwriters.

Adrian comments, “I think Richie and I complement each other really well. He’s a virtuoso guitarist but he’s got a great sense of melody — the whole thing just felt very natural.”

Richie adds: “We found common ground in classic and blues-based rock — we both come from that mentality. We’ve been writing and recording together for the past year and I’m ecstatic with the results.”

Smith has spent the last few months promoting his memoir, “Monsters Of River & Rock”, which was released in September via Virgin Books.

In February 2020, Kotzen released his 22nd solo album, “50 For 50”, via his own custom label, Headroom-Inc. The three-disc collection is just what the title implies: a collection of 50 previously unreleased compositions produced, performed and written by Kotzen in honor of his birthday. It’s the follow-up to his critically acclaimed “Salting Earth” album, which came out in April 2017 via Headroom-Inc.

SATYRICON To Release Remixed And Remastered Editions Of 'Dark Medieval Times' And 'The Shadowthrone'

SATYRICON’s first album, “Dark Medieval Times”, was released in the autumn of 1993 followed by its successor, “The Shadowthrone”, only eight months later. These pioneering pieces of art marked a start of a black metal evolution and have influenced the genre ever since. Both records will now be released as remixed and remastered reissues with altered cover artworks, on May 28 via Napalm Records.

When it comes to pivotal moments in the evolution of heavy music, the Norwegian black metal scene of the late ’80s and early ’90s takes some beating for sheer audacity and contrarian verve. Most importantly, many of the records released during those tumultuous formative years have become established and undisputed classics in metal’s illustrious canon, and SATYRICON’s extraordinary early works must surely rank among the most revered of all.

Remixed and remastered “Dark Medieval Times” and “The Shadowthrone” will be available as a special limited deluxe box, as well as in two-LP gatefold, CD digipack and digital album formats.

“Dark Medieval Times” was both instantly recognizable as the product of the thriving Norwegian scene and as something wholly distinctive within that superficially restrictive musical framework. Even more remarkable was the fact that the entire record had been written and performed (with the exception of drums) by a then 17-year-old Sigurd “Satyr” Wongraven: clearly a prodigious talent with an abundance of epic and perverse ideas rattling around in his head.

“The Shadowthrone”, SATYRICON’s second album, showcased a huge evolutionary leap for its creators. Where the Norwegians’ debut had heralded the arrival of a furious new creative force, the second full-length was an act of consolidation and refinement, as Satyr truly blossomed as a composer of artful extremity. Even in sonic terms, it stood apart from both tradition and trend, deftly encompassing both primitive, earthbound grit and a suffocating sense of otherworldly vastness.

WENDY DIO Details RONNIE JAMES DIO's Final Days: 'I Didn't Think He Was Gonna Die'

Ronnie James Dio’s former wife and longtime manager Wendy Dio has reflected on the legendary heavy metal singer’s passing, saying she thought he was going to beat cancer.

Ronnie lost his life to stomach cancer, also called gastric cancer, in May 2010. The disease often does not cause symptoms until its later stages. Usually, by the time stomach cancer is diagnosed, the prognosis is poor.

The musician, who was suffering from abdominal discomfort saw a doctor in the winter of 2009, and after a series of tests, he was diagnosed with cancer.

“We were told it was stage four cancer, but we didn’t believe that Ronnie wouldn’t make it, because Ronnie was a very strong person,” Wendy told U.K.’s Planet Rock digital radio station in a new interview (as transcribed by BLABBERMOUTH.NET). “And we went to Houston to MD Anderson [Cancer Center] for his chemo treatment, and we would say, ‘We’re killing the dragon.’ We called it the ‘dragon,’ and we said, ‘We’re killing the dragon.’ Ronnie didn’t suffer a lot. He did his chemo treatments. And I didn’t think he was gonna die. I [thought] he was gonna beat it.

“When I realized it was too late was on the Friday [May 14, 2010]. He got up and said he didn’t feel well at all,” she continued. “And so I called his doctor over, and we went to the hospital. He was in extreme pain — agony — and so they gave him a bunch of morphine, and Ronnie actually went into a coma. And we stayed in the hospital there until Sunday morning when he passed away.”

According to Wendy, a number of Ronnie’s closest friends and associates got to see him one final time before he died on May 16, 2010.

“[BLACK SABBATH bassist] Geezer and [his wife and manager] Gloria Butler were amazing; they were there with me the entire time,” she said. “They just couldn’t do enough for me. And it was really nice.

“With Ronnie coming back with SABBATH this last time [as HEAVEN & HELL], all the problems everybody had had before all disappeared,” Wendy added. “They were all the best of friends. They were doing amazing, playing amazing. The friendship was unbelievable. And Terry [Geezer] and Ronnie were planning to [take] a trip to Egypt together.

“There was about 30 people [who] came — close friends of Ronnie’s — and we were in the hospital with him. And he passed away Sunday morning.”

Asked if she was in denial at the time about Ronnie’s health, Wendy said: “[I was in] denial. Total denial. Especially when three weeks before he passed away, he was accepting the [Revolver] Golden Gods award [in Los Angeles], and he was doing fine. And we all thought, ‘He’s gonna make it.'”

Ronnie passed away less than six months after announcing he had been diagnosed with stomach cancer.

In 2006, BLACK SABBATH’s “Heaven And Hell”-era incarnation reunited as HEAVEN & HELL. Dio, Butler, guitarist Tony Iommi and drummer Vinny Appice recorded the acclaimed 2009 album “The Devil You Know”, and toured on and off for the next few years.

Ronnie James Dio’s long-awaited autobiography, titled “Rainbow In The Dark: The Autobiography”, will be released on July 27 via Permuted Press. The book was partially written before the singer’s death and was originally scheduled to be published several years ago via MTV Books. Also in the works is a career-spanning documentary on the life and times of the legendary rock icon. It is the first documentary about Dio to be fully authorized by the artist’s estate. BMG is both financier and executive producer of the film.

MICHAEL ANTHONY: CHICKENFOOT Will 'Definitely' Play Again

Michael Anthony says that CHICKENFOOT will “definitely” reunite for more live shows and possible new music.

The supergroup, which features the ex-VAN HALEN bassist, alongside legendary guitarist Joe Satriani, former VAN HALEN singer Sammy Hagar and RED HOT CHILI PEPPERS drummer Chad Smith, has been largely inactive since 2012 when it toured with Kenny Aronoff on drums due to Smith’s busy schedule with his main band.

In 2018, CHICKENFOOT reunited at the Fillmore in San Francisco during the fifth annual “Acoustic-4-A-Cure” benefit concert. The even marked the band’s first performance together in just over two years.

Asked in a new interview with Terrie Carr of the Morristown, New Jersey radio station 105.5 WDHA if there are any plans for CHICKENFOOT to play again, Anthony said (as transcribed by BLABBERMOUTH.NET): “I think there’ll definitely be some kind of CHICKENFOOT [activity] in the future. Sammy and I, we talk about it all the time, and I text with Joe and Chad all the time, if we’re not speaking. And I know Joe really wants to do it.”

Michael, who has spent most of the last few years playing with Sammy in THE CIRCLE, continued: “It’s kind of funny, ’cause we start doing THE CIRCLE thing, and Sammy gets all enamored with THE CIRCLE. He’s all, ‘Oh, yeah. It’s THE CIRCLE this and that.’ But you never know. He might wake up tomorrow and go, ‘Oh my God. CHICKENFOOT — let’s do a CHICKENFOOT gig.’

“I definitely think that CHICKENFOOT will do something else,” Anthony reiterated. “Whether we’ll record another album, which would be great — I’d love to do that. But I’d love to just together and even just do some shows — do a bunch of shows with those guys. ‘Cause that’s actually some of the best times I’ve ever had on the road. Believe me — touring with Chad Smith is like touring with no other… Even hanging out with Chad since he’s been sober, he’s still crazier than some of the most crazy people I know.

“But we definitely have a great time. And I definitely feel that we’ll [get together], if not to record some new stuff, hopefully in the near future to at least get together and play some shows together.”

Two years ago, Joe told Meltdown of Detroit’s WRIF radio station that “the door is always open” for CHICKENFOOT to play again, “because there’s a true connection between the four of us, and we’d all do it in a second.”

In March 2017, CHICKENFOOT released “Divine Termination”, its first new tune in five years, on “Best + Live”, the band’s first-ever best-of collection.

CHICKENFOOT’s most recent album of all-new material was “Chickenfoot III”, the band’s second LP, issued in 2011.

OBITUARY Fans Shouldn't Expect Surprises On Next Album: 'We Don't Like To Evolve Too Much'

OBITUARY frontman John Tardy has confirmed to France’s United Rock Nations that the band has used some of the downtime during the coronavirus pandemic to work on material for a new studio album. “We’ve definitely been working on new tunes, and we’ve been taking our time,” he said (as transcribed by BLABBERMOUTH.NET). “We didn’t feel like releasing [a new album] now in the middle of the pandemic when you can’t go on tour and support it is not what we wanted to do, so we’re in no hurry. But by the time next year comes around, we’re gonna be hitting the road again. We’re getting tours set up, and we will be releasing another album next year before we hit the road and start touring again. So we are currently working on new material.”

Asked what fans can expect from the follow-up to OBITUARY’s 2017 self-titled album, John said: “I think it’s just gonna sound like OBITUARY. [Laughs] You know us — we’re kind of cavemen; we don’t like to evolve too much. We like to change it up and do a little here and there, but we’re getting too old to change too much, I think. So as long as it’s heavy and pounding, then that’s what you can expect.”

John’s latest comments echo those made by his brother, drummer Donald Tardy, who told Italy’s “Heavy Demons” radio show that he and his bandmates are “very excited about the new songs. [They’re] very OBITUARY style, but just like a good red wine that’s been opened, it’s just getting tastier and tastier. Some of these riffs and some of these songs that we have for the new album fans are really gonna love. We stick to our roots. We are OBITUARY. We do not try to play a million miles an hour. We want it to be midtempo and groovy and heavy, and that’s really what we’re trying to deliver to our fans.”

Earlier in the month, OBITUARY announced a new two-part spring livestream series. The band performed its favorite songs on March 27 and will run through its classic third album, 1992’s “The End Complete”, in its entirety on April 3.

Tickets, t-shirts and bundles are available at www.obituarylive.com.

Last October, OBITUARY took part in a three-part “live stream concert series” featuring full-album performances of “Slowly We Rot”, “Cause Of Death” and rare classics. The first two streams — a “Slowly We Rot” set; and a “Cause Of Death” set — were live from the ESI Streaming Studio in Tampa, Florida. The third stream, featuring rare classics and special tracks, was broadcasted live from OBITUARY’s recording studio in Gibsonton, Florida.

ANTHRAX Is Working On New Music, Says JONATHAN DONAIS

ANTHRAX guitarist Jonathan Donais has confirmed to “The Chuck Shute Podcast” that the band is working on a new album. “Hopefully, once this pandemic’s over, there’ll be a new record and a ton of touring behind it,” he said (as transcribed by BLABBERMOUTH.NET). “I know the band is working on stuff, and I know they’ve got stuff written. [But] I haven’t gone into the studio with them or anything yet.”

Asked if he is involved in the ANTHRAX songwriting or if the other guys piece together the material on their own, Donais said: “They’ve done all the writing. They’ve got a system down. All bands work different. It works great for them. They’ve been successful for over 35 years, [and] they’re going strong — stronger than ever, really. The last few records have been amazing.”

Donais, who joined ANTHRAX in 2013 as the replacement for Rob Caggiano (now in VOLBEAT), went on to admit that he has not yet actually heard any of the material that will appear on the band’s follow-up to 2016’s “For All Kings” album.

Five years ago, ANTHRAX bassist Frank Bello said that Donais “brought a great energy to the band.” ANTHRAX rhythm guitarist Scott Ian added: “Jon’s approach towards lead guitar playing, he’s more of a guy who’s looking to construct something that makes sense and helps a song rather than the 45 seconds for him to be showing off how many notes he can play in X amount of measures.”

Last November, Ian told “Whiplash”, the KLOS radio show hosted by Full Metal Jackie, that he and his bandmates likely won’t release any music until the coronavirus pandemic has subsided and they are able to tour in support of the effort. “That’s where I am personally right at this moment,” he said. “Six months from now, who knows where the world is gonna be? We don’t know. Maybe things will be closer to being back to normal; maybe they’ll be further away from back to normal. Nobody has an answer to this, so anytime someone asks me about that, I really don’t have an answer.

“In my brain, I don’t wanna put a record out until I can play shows,” he continued. “That’s what I wanna do, but, of course, I don’t control the world and I don’t control what’s gonna happen with COVID. I think I can safely say we will certainly be ready to make a record [in 2021]. So I think we will probably go do that once we’re ready to go do it. There would be no reason to have a record [written] and then just sit around and not record it. So, I think once we actually feel like we’re ready to go into the studio, we’ll do that, regardless of where things are at on the planet, and then just take it from there. At least it’ll be in the can, and then we’ll be able to make a decision on what the best course is for us to take at that point.”

At the 2019 Download festival in the United Kingdom, drummer Charlie Benante said fans can expect to hear some surprises on ANTHRAX’s next disc. “There’s some extreme stuff on this record that we touched on,” he said. “There’s different things that we’re gonna try and do that’s gonna make it next level.”

“For All Kings” was called by some critics ANTHRAX’s strongest album to date. Its arrival followed a five-year period during which the band experienced a rebirth of sorts, beginning with ANTHRAX’s inclusion on the “Big Four” tour, and continuing with the 2011 release of comeback LP “Worship Music”.
