“Annabelle: Creation” Tops North American Weekend Box Office, “Wolf Warrior” Tops Global

image from www.celebrityaccess.comWarner Brother’s “Annabelle: Creation” $35 million in North American theaters over the weekend, providing a little hope for an otherwise sleepy August box office in North America.  A sequel to 2014’s “Annabelle” the film series is in itself, a spin-off of the ghostly “Conjuring” series, the modestly budgeted film garnered decent reviews and promised future films from the franchise. 

In North America, Christopher Nolan’s “Dunkirk” held on to second place, adding $11.4M from theaters in the U.S. and Canada over the weekend, while the Open Road animated release “Nut Job 2: Nutty by Nature,” squeezed in at third place, opening to an estimated box office take of 8.9m domestically. 

Internationally, the Chinese-made “Wolf Warriors 2” continued to perform strongly, adding an estimated $83.6 million in international markets and approaching cumulative revenues of $700m. “Annabelle: Creation” also performed well abroad, adding another $36.7 million according to estimates compiled by comScore, while “Dunkirk” rounded out the top 3, adding $14.5 abroad.
