Classic death metal, and its revival of recent years, is an easily recognized musical sport, and the playing field has become incredibly crowded in recent years. Sometimes, quality comes down to attitude. And when your band is playing within a well-established style, creating a worthwhile listen sometimes requires a freewheeling abandon. Glasgow’s Coffin Mulch set out in just this fashion to craft its new album, Septic Funeral. According to the band:
“We really just wanted to write some classic death metal with horror-inspired lyrics, all without taking ourselves too seriously … I mean, one of the songs is about vegan sausage rolls!”
Only the most brutal vegan sausage rolls. Can’t argue with that!
