Guitar Playthrough: Last Retch – “In the Polder They Reek”

Last Retch have blessed us with a playthrough video of “In the Polder They Reek” from their forthcoming record, Abject Cruelty, due out September 26 via Time to Kill Records.

The Canadian band perfectly capture the old-school death metal vibe with this raw release, and as this playthrough shows, they can keep the vibe going all the time while still nailing all their riffs.

“‘Polder’ is the heaviest track on the new record,” the band say of the song and the playthrough. With its chuggy riffs and mid-paced tempo, it always gets heads banging when we play it live. It was a great choice for a playthrough because it’s such a simple song—Anyone could learn it just by watching the video. We shot this during our studio time last May, setting up behind the amp wall that was used for the album’s guitar tones.

“We didn’t have our smoke machine on hand, so we got creative—Finlay (vocals) and Matt (bass) hid behind the amps, and blew vape smoke during the shoot. We filmed three playthroughs that day, and by the end, those boys were just about ready to pass out.

“In the end, we nailed the old VHS-style vibe we were going for. Keep your eyes peeled for more playthroughs as we get closer to the album release date.”
