Fans will have the chance to meet Detroit’s own Rock And Roll Hall Of Famer and have their copy of “Detroit Stories” signed in person. This is the first time since 1999 that Cooper has participated in an event of this kind in the metro Detroit area.

“Detroit Stories” celebrates the rock icon’s former hometown and his hard-rock roots. “I’m excited to do an album signing in Detroit again,” said Alice. “Especially for the ‘Detroit Stories’ album, and for all the Detroit fans. Detroit still feels like home in so many ways. And Rock City Music is the right place to do it. We recorded nearly all of it in Royal Oak, and now we can celebrate it in Livonia, followed by the concert two days later up at Pine Knob. I know it’s DTE Energy now but it will always be Pine Knob to us.”

Cooper’s fall tour lands at DTE Energy Music Theatre on September 25 (with special guest Ace Frehley), presented by Live Nation.

Rock City Music Company is a full-service music center featuring a wide selection of the coolest guitars, amps and drums, a killer selection of vinyl records, t-shirts, posters, accessories, novelty items and more. ARMORED SAINT To Release 'Symbol Of Salvation Live' CD/DVD In October

On October 22, ARMORED SAINT will release a new CD/DVD, “Symbol Of Salvation Live”, via Metal Blade Records, to celebrate the seminal album’s 30th anniversary.

For a first preview of “Symbol Of Salvation Live”, a video for the title track can be seen below.

There are many ways to celebrate the anniversary of an important release in a band’s career, and for “Symbol Of Salvation”‘s 30th birthday — an album vocalist John Bush refers to as ARMORED SAINT’s “cornerstone record” — comes “Symbol Of Salvation Live”. A combination live album and video of the band playing the album in its entirety at New York’s famed Gramercy Theatre during their 2018 tour, it captures the power, diversity and peerless songwriting contained within it.

“I felt like showing ‘Symbol’ in another light was a great homage to the record itself,” states bassist Joey Vera. “Also, having all the fans be there and part of that event is a way for us to say ‘Thank you!’ For, without them, we can’t do any of this in the first place.”

There is no denying that “Symbol Of Salvation” stands out of the band’s catalog as something truly special, something that the band recognize as readily as their rabid fanbase. “It links our past to our future,” says Bush. “I believe it was the time that we honestly thought we could do whatever we wanted to musically and it would somehow work. There’s a magical feeling about it and it continues to gain mystique every year.” However, the band went through some adverse times while initially writing the songs that would make up the record, being without a label for three years prior to signing with Metal Blade, and in 1990 — before they headed into the studio — losing founding guitarist Dave Prichard to leukemia. This ultimately served to light a fire under the band, pushing them to deliver their very best. “Because we had lifted ourselves out of these ashes, as it were, we felt a very strong desire to make every little thing count,” elaborates Vera. “It felt more important than anything we had ever done before. For one thing, we didn’t want Dave’s writing contributions to be in vain. Also, we were on a mission to let the world hear what we’d been working on for three years. Funny thing is, that during the separation of the metal genre between glam and thrash from ’85 to ’89, we kinda felt like we had to prove something to everyone else. But while making ‘Symbol’, we also had something to prove, except this time, we had to prove it to ourselves.”

The decision to play the album in its entirety on dates in the U.S. and Europe in 2018 was in fact quite pragmatic, the band between records and wanting to play more shows, and with the anniversary of “Symbol Of Salvation” on the horizon, Vera believed it would be a “fun challenge” to play it in a live setting. “We thought since the fans seem to agree that this record is a favorite, it would be well received,” he says. “And as usual, it takes time and planning for a release down the road, so we jumped on that idea and did a bunch of dates before we began writing for our next record. It was really great seeing the reaction from the crowds when we’d play the really deep cuts. Not only the songs we very rarely played, but also the couple of songs that we had never played before. Some of these tunes took on a whole new life and it was very motivating for me, to see these songs in a different light. I would say that experience was an inspiration when I began writing for ‘Punching The Sky’ (2020).” The show itself was captured by a six-camera crew, Bush saying the band were “pumped up”, knowing that they were filming, and, as always, the quintet delivered their very best from the moment they stepped on stage. They also have fond memories of the show, which remains their biggest headline show in New York to date. “The vibe in the room was so great,” says Vera. “The fans made us feel so welcome, like we had come home for a celebration of sorts, and we all celebrated ‘Symbol Of Salvation’. It gave me chills hearing people sing along to songs like ‘Burning Question’, a song we never had played live before.”

As an extra bonus, the vinyl and digital versions of the record contain five demo tracks from the “Symbol Of Salvation” writing sessions with Dave Prichard, which have never been released on that format. “They’re songs that didn’t make the record, however, there still is a vibe to those tunes, plus Dave’s playing is on them, so that makes them special,” says Bush. These tracks make for welcome additions, helping to further celebrate the record, and the band are just happy and respectful of the fact they have reached this anniversary. “If you would have told me thirty years ago that we’d be talking about this today, I would have told you that you were crazy,” Vera says. “All we’ve ever wanted was to make our own music, to take joy and take pride in doing it. The fact that we also have very loyal fans who continue to support what we do is the best icing on this cake. I try to look at our records as objectively as possible, and when I can do that, I’m very proud that this record is a huge part of the band’s legacy, and I am extremely humbled that I’m a part of that.”

SLIPKNOT's COREY TAYLOR: METALLICA's 'Master Of Puppets' Is 'The Perfect Heavy Metal Album'

Ahead of the release of Corey Taylor’s version of “Holier Than Thou” on METALLICA’s “Blacklist” album, the SLIPKNOT and STONE SOUR frontman sat down with Knotfest.com’s Ryan J. Downey to discuss METALLICA, “Holier Than You” and more in a four-part series. Speaking about how METALLICA, MEGADETH, SLAYER and ANTHRAX shaped his musical identity in the late 1980s and created a sound that defined a generation, Taylor said (as transcribed by BLABBERMOUTH.NET): “That was the sounding gun for a whole new generation of psychos, because those bands appealed to so many different — I don’t wanna say ‘cliques,’ but so many different crowds. The punk kids loved them, the metal kids worshipped them. It was still too underground for the straights — quote-unquote the straights. But even the alternative kids dug it, because there was so much ferocity in it and there was just something different. It felt heavier than [BLACK] SABBATH and heavier than DEEP PURPLE, but those were the bands that fueled these bands. Between that, and then you could feel that undercurrent of the hardcore scene — the punk scene, the hardcore scene, the stuff that we, the skater kids, were listening to, as well as the hip-hop or whatnot. So this was this burgeoning explosion of attitude, fast music, just in your face, and we just knew as soon as our parents heard it, they hated it, which made us love it even more. Nothing is better than listening to something that scares the hell out of adults.”

Taylor went on to call METALLICA’s classic third LP “Master Of Puppets” “the perfect heavy metal album. There’s no fat,” he said. “I mean, you can put it on and listen to the… The only bad thing I can say is that it’s too short. Before you know it, it’s over, and you’re, like, ‘Wait a minute,’ and you’ve gotta start it over again. So, it’s crazy. It’s just a beautiful, beautiful album.”

Back in 2017, Corey singled out “Master Of Puppets” as “the greatest modern heavy metal album ever made.” He said: “[It is] heavy and yet it’s so fucking melodic. It is badass and yet it has moments of pure fucking contemplative cool flow stuff. It is sludgy and yet will rip your fucking head off. And it has the best METALLICA song ever written, ‘Disposable Heroes’, on it. That fucking song is a clinic, not only in alternate picking, but also down picking. I can’t play it, and I can play almost anything. That’s how good it is.” [The LP has] got some of James [Hetfield’s] best performances, and the whole band is amazing on it. And it’s got some of his best lyrics on it. You listen to it and you’re like, “This is criminal, how fucking good this album is.”

Last year, Taylor told Apple Music’s Zane Lowe that METALLICA’s longevity and career success have offered a “blueprint” that SLIPKNOT will continue to follow in the years to come.

“If there’s any band that we absolutely respect… there are a handful of bands, but METALLICA was definitely, they were the high-water mark, man, they were the band to achieve,” he said. “That was our [SLIPKNOT’s] blueprint, basically. But we took so much from so many different bands as well that it would be unfair to say it was just METALLICA that really guided us. Obviously, they [METALLICA] were… still finding ways to challenge themselves. That’s the key. And that’s where METALLICA, I really feel, is the blueprint, because they keep finding ways to break new ground, play every continent. They’ll be the first band to play Mars, I’m convinced of that.”

STONE SOUR’s version of METALLICA’s “Creeping Death” was featured on the former band’s “Meanwhile In Burbank…”, a five-song covers EP which was released in 2015.

OVERKILL: 'The Atlantic Years 1986 -1994' Vinyl And CD Box Sets Due In October

An integral part of the early-’80s thrash metal movement that spawned acts like METALLICA and ANTHRAX, New Jersey’s OVERKILL garnered a reputation for brutal, pounding speed and technique. Taking their moniker from the 1979 MOTÖRHEAD album of the same name, an early demo, “Power In Black”, made waves in the underground tape-trading circuit and caught the attention of Megaforce Records, which issued the band’s full-length studio debut, “Feel The Fire”, in 1985. High-profile shows alongside luminaries like SLAYER and ANTHRAX followed, and with the American thrash scene in full tilt, OVERKILL inked a major-label deal with Atlantic, which put out their sophomore effort, 1987’s uncompromising “Taking Over”. This was followed quickly in 1988 by the equally uncompromising “Under The Influence”, which spawned the MTV hit “Hello From The Gutter”. Continuing their breakneck pace, the band issued the Terry Date-produced “Years Of Decay” the following year in 1989, which saw them pushing their sound in a more epic direction, while maintaining the neck-snapping attack of their debut. Expanding their lineup to a five piece in 1990 they released the brooding and relentlessly heavy “Horrorscope”, which introduced elements of doom into the mix and would go on to become a defining release and fan favorite. OVERKILL continued to move toward a more epic BLACK SABBATH style on 1993’s “I Hear Black” but switched up again on 1994’s “W.F.O.” which marked a return to the whiplash-inducing thrash of the past.

OVERKILL is held in high regard as one of the true greats of the global metal scene. These six albums cemented OVERKILL in the thrash hall of fame, while contributing to their 16 million record sales notched up over the last 40 years, and are all considered stone cold classics. All six of these albums are back on vinyl for the first time in over a decade. Half speed mastered for dynamic range and pressed on 180-gram vinyl. Also available as a CD collector’s box.

“The Atlantic Years 1986 To 1994” contains:

* Taking Over
* Under The Influence
* The Years Of Decay
* Horroscope
* I Hear Black
* W.F.O.

GENE SIMMONS Apologizes To DAVID LEE ROTH: 'I Am Ashamed That I Hurt His Feelings'

Gene Simmons has apologized to David Lee Roth for implying in a recent interview that the VAN HALEN frontman was past his prime.

Roth performed as the opening act for the February/March 2020 North American leg of KISS’s farewell tour, but is not making any appearances on the rescheduled KISS shows which kicked off on August 18 in Mansfield, Massachusetts. Simmons explained Roth’s absence from the trek by telling Rolling Stone: “[Roth] took being a frontman way beyond anything. And then, I don’t know what happened to him … something. And you get modern-day Dave. I prefer to remember Elvis Presley in his prime. Sneering lips, back in Memphis, you know, doing all that. I don’t want to think of bloated naked Elvis on the bathroom floor.”

Apparently irked at Gene’s comments, Dave took to Instagram over the weekend to share an image of a young boy wearing shades and extending the middle finger to the camera along with the words “Roth to Simmons:” Dave posted the image 18 times.

Now Simmons has clarified his original statement, telling US Weekly that his words were misconstrued.

“I am so sorry and ashamed, actually, that I hurt David’s feelings,” Gene said (as transcribed by BLABBERMOUTH.NET). “I’m the guy, actually, that saw [VAN HALEN] at a club [in the 1970s], signed them to my production company, flew them to New York, produced their first 24-track 15-song demo and championed the band. And, actually, we took David out as our opening act on the [KISS ‘End Of The Road’] tour. And in the course of an interview… You hear me talking — I just sort of stream of consciousness… I don’t mean to hurt people’s feelings, and every once in a while, diarrhea of the mouth comes out.”

He continued: “I read that quote, and somehow the way they put it together… I think I said something like, ‘Nobody touched David in his prime — not Robert Plant, not Jagger, not anybody… He was the king.’ And then somehow there was a segue to Elvis bloated on the ground and fat and naked and I don’t wanna see that. I wasn’t talking about David, but that doesn’t matter. What matters is I hurt David’s feelings, and that’s more important than the intent. So I sincerely apologize for that. I didn’t mean to hurt his feelings. It reminds me of the guy that gets out of a truck and says, ‘Hey, I’m sorry, buddy. I didn’t mean to run you over.’ Well, what the fuck’s the difference? You’ve been run over.”

Asked if he thinks the reason Roth felt so slighted by his comments is the fact that he respects Gene and values his opinion, Simmons responded: “I don’t know. Nah. I don’t think anybody gives two shits about what I think, and that’s the way it should be — treat everybody sort of on an equal plane. This is gonna get me in trouble too — even the Pope poops every day. You know, this kind of the humanity of it all. I’m not better than you; you’re not better than me. And feelings — that includes the Pope, who’s a good guy and everything — feelings are human. And anybody can hurt your feelings. I mean, you can be the king of anything, and a kid can come over and say, ‘Eh, you stink,’ in front of everybody else, and it can hurt your feeelings.

“So, for that I’m really sorry about. I never meant to hurt his feelings. But in the way the words came out, yeah, I could see where that was the impression. Not my intention.”

In a January 2020 interview with Eric Blair of “The Blairing Out With Eric Blair Show”, Paul Stanley was asked what the best part was of having Roth opening for KISS. Stanley said: “Well, Dave’s got so many great songs. All the VAN HALEN catalog is terrific, and that’s what he’s doing. So, people get to hear all those great songs, and it was something that really appealed to us.”

Simmons has repeatedly taken credit for “discovering” VAN HALEN and flying the band to New York to record a 15-song demo at Electric Lady Studios, with Gene at the production helm. But he ended up not working with the group after his KISS bandmates and manager, Bill Aucoin, expressed little interest in his demos. “I gave the demo back to the band, told them I had a tour to go on and afterward I would try to get them a record deal, but until then, I tore up our contract and set them free,” he said. “It didn’t take them long to get on Warner Bros.”

In March 2020, Roth postponed the final six shows of his Las Vegas residency due to the coronavirus pandemic.

KISS’s rescheduled “End Of The Road” dates run through October.

TROUBLE Singer KYLE THOMAS Pays Tribute To ERIC WAGNER: 'He Was An Influence On Me More Than I Can Say'

TROUBLE singer Kyle Thomas has paid tribute to the band’s former frontman Eric Wagner who died over the weekend at the age of 62.

On Tuesday (August 24), Thomas, who joined TROUBLE in 2012, released the following statement via social media: “Upon awakening yesterday morning to begin celebrating my wife’s birthday with her, we were first met with news of the tragic loss of Eric Wagner. His passing ripped through the remaining artists and fans that had yet to leave Psycho Las Vegas. Just a few days ago I was hoping to see Eric and THE SKULL joining us all at the festival, and here we are now mourning his passing. So many tears followed, but more love and great memories eventually began to take over the conversations.

“Eric was one of a kind; a brilliant lyricist with a grand voice that was unmistakable. He was an influence on me more than I can say, and singing his songs will continue to be an honor as well as a pleasure. Although we had only properly met once, Eric reached out to me when I officially joined TROUBLE with encouraging and kind words. I cannot tell you what that means to me as a fan. But as someone that is always going to be under a microscope for occupying the spot where he once stood, it really meant a lot to me. I’ll never forget that.

“I could go on and on, but I just want to wrap this tribute to one of my heroes up with some love. I want to send peace, condolences, and wishes of comfort for his family and closest friends. Thank you, Eric, for helping to bring us a soundtrack for our lives. And thank you for welcoming me into the TROUBLE legacy when you did. It made my ride much more enjoyable, please believe that.”

Wagner, who was reportedly unvaccinated against the coronavirus, died after a battle with COVID pneumonia. Less than a week earlier, his THE SKULL bandmates went public with the fact that he was infected by the novel coronavirus.

TROUBLE formed in 1979 and released several classic albums like “Trouble”, “Manic Frustration” and “Plastic Green Head”.

Wagner left TROUBLE in April 2008, citing his disdain for the touring life as the main reason for his departure.

Eric was one of the guest singers on Dave Grohl’s (NIRVANA, FOO FIGHTERS) heavy metal side project PROBOT, whose 2004 album featured heavy metal vocalists from the ’80s and ’90s.

Last year, TROUBLE partnered with Hammerheart Records to re-release the legendary doom legends’ entire musical catalog, in addition to their upcoming album. This partnership that will see the distribution of the band’s entire library of music that spans over three decades.

SABATON Collaborates With WARGAMING Game Developer On 'Steel Commanders' Music Video

Swedish metallers SABATON have collaborated with World Of Tanks game developer Wargaming on the “Steel Commanders” music video. The clip, which can be seen below, also features Grammy Award-nominated and BRIT Female Artist Of The Year-nominated Tina Guo. Having established an international career as a virtuoso acoustic/electric cellist, multi-instrumentalist, composer, and entrepreneur, Guo is known for her unique genre-crossing style, she is one of the most recorded solo cellists of all time and can be heard on hundreds of blockbuster film, television, and game soundtracks.

“It’s been a great experience working with the World Of Tanks and Wargaming guys on this huge project. Together, we made an epic music video for ‘Steel Commanders’ and it’s the perfect way to kick off our massive collaboration,” states Joakim Brodén, lead vocalist of SABATON. “We’re proud to be part of this brand new in-game event that features the first-ever Tier IX Premium tank as the ultimate prize, as well as us as crew members!”

“Steel Commanders” will be out on all digital streaming platforms on September 17. All pre-savers will be eligible to win prizes, including “Steel Commanders” merchandise, as well as World Of Tanks bonus codes with exclusive SABATON in-game content!

Apart from the music video, SABATON is headlining a new in-game event: Spirit Of War. The event will see tankers take on challenges to reap the utmost reward: the game’s first-ever Tier IX Premium tank, the Strv K. Eagle-eyed viewers will have noticed it in the “Steel Commanders” video, and it will be manned by a SABATON crew that includes Brodén, who recorded a custom voiceover that’s full of Easter eggs for fans to discover. Once tankers earn their Strv K, they will be tasked with getting the exclusive Spirit Of War 3D style.

“We’ve really enjoyed working with the SABATON guys and we’re happy to have them onboard this project,” states Max Chuvalov, publishing director, World Of Tanks. “Our players love their music, and we complement each other as we are both fascinated with military history. Plus, we hope the new tune will inspire tankers to go that extra mile for the victory.”

Even if players ultimately do not finish the marathon, they will earn plenty of goodies along the way and each stage they clear will allow them a set 10% discount on purchasing the Strv K, and the same is true for the 3D style. The Strv K also features its own SABATON soundtrack and will allow you to earn bonds in Random Battles, so it’s a vehicle no tanker will want to miss out on, if not for owning a piece of World Of Tanks history. The Spirit Of War event will run from August 27 through September 6.

ALL THAT REMAINS To Celebrate 15th Anniversary Of 'The Fall Of Ideals'

ALL THAT REMAINS is celebrating the 15th anniversary of its breakthrough album, “The Fall Of Ideals”, with a new vinyl reissue, a tour and a documentary. Set to release on November 12 and available for pre-order today, the best-selling title features such fan favorites as “This Calling”, “Six” and “The Air That I Breathe”. In addition to the wide release, the band has exclusive colored vinyl variants with deluxe packaging available only at the band’s webstore. The band will also be announcing information on their anniversary tour and documentary later this year.

Originally released in 2006, “The Fall Of Ideals” launched a new era for ALL THAT REMAINS — finding the band moving away from the death metal of their first two albums (2002’s “Behind Silence And Solitude” and 2004’s “This Darkened Heart”) and settling into the melodic metalcore that defined their career. “The Fall Of Ideals” also introduced fans to the band’s longtime bassist Jeanne Sagan and marked their only album to feature drummer Shannon Lucas. The newcomers joined founding members Phil Labonte (vocals) and Oli Herbert (lead guitars), as well as rhythm guitarist Mike Martin.

In the studio, the Massachusetts quintet partnered with two prominent metal artists: KILLSWITCH ENGAGE’s Adam Dutkiewicz, who served as producer, and SOILWORK’s Peter Wichers, who engineered the sessions. The dynamic, 11-song set found the musicians pushing their sonic boundaries, while Labonte showcased his broad vocal range — from epic, extended screams and in-your-face growls to emotive choruses. The album spawned a variety of enduring favorites, including the hard-driving “This Calling”, which featured in the soundtracks to “Saw III” and “Masters Of Horror II”, as well as singles “The Air That I Breathe” and “Not Alone”. Other highlights included the guitar-forward “Whispers (I Hear You)” and the dramatic “Six”, which appeared in “Guitar Hero II”.

Upon its release in the summer of 2006, “The Fall Of Ideals” was embraced by fans, becoming the band’s first album to break the Billboard 200 (peaking at No. 75) and eventually selling more than 450,000 units. The album also caught the attention of critics. Pop Matters hailed, “ALL THAT REMAINS has made the kind of stylistic leap that most bands can only wish they could pull off… ‘The Fall Of Ideals’ [is] invigorating from start to finish, and could very well be the metalcore album of the year.” BLABBERMOUTH.NET praised, “ALL THAT REMAINS effortlessly blends thrashy twin guitar fireworks and Phil Labonte’s raging vocals with soaring clean vocals and overall tunefulness…There is no denying that those guys play their asses off here and the result is immensely gratifying.” Lambgoat simply declared, “The entire band executes the songs perfectly,” adding that “the production…is full and crisp.”

“We’re so thankful to everyone who has kept this disc in their hearts for the past 15 years,” says Labonte. “We are proud to celebrate the reissue and can’t wait to tell you about all the other cool things we have in store.”

In the 15 years since “The Fall Of Ideals”, ALL THAT REMAINS have built an undeniable legacy as one of this century’s most consistent purveyors of heavy music with a bulletproof canon of arena-worthy anthems. Currently consisting of Labonte and Martin, as well as drummer Jason Costa, bassist Aaron Patrick and lead guitarist Jason Richardson, the band continues to defy the odds of its genre. To date, they have sold more than a million albums worldwide, earning five consecutive Top 10 debuts on the Billboard Top Rock Albums chart, and boasting more than 1.5 million monthly listeners on Spotify — an unprecedented feat for any metal band. In 2018, ALL THAT REMAINS released their widely acclaimed ninth studio album, “Victim Of The New Disease”.
